| SlanderPanic08-01-07, 11:03 PM | I finally got around to looking at the variant classes in the back of Untapped Potential tonight. The changes to the wilder look fine... until one gets to Perfect Surge. Is it intended to be a last-resort ability? It certainly seems so. The price a wilder pays for using it is far too high to risk failure. |
| Tempest Stormwind08-01-07, 11:08 PM | It is a last-ditch effort maneuver. BlaineTog wrote the basics of the ability a long time ago and I helped refine it then (and again for UTP). Note that you *always* enervate afterward, but there are numerous ways to avoid the dazing, even from CPsi. Capstone abilities shouldn't change how a class plays. They should be "what could the class be at this point". A wilder is all about powerful, uncontrollable surges of psionic might. Name one part of Perfect Surge that doesn't fit that. In fact, Perfect Surge is so strong it's designed to be something you use pretty much once or twice per adventure -- it's a desperation technique or the ultimate finishing strike, depending on how you use it. We really wanted to make using it *hurt*, so you wouldn't consider it like any ol' 1/day ability either. |

| Tempest Stormwind08-02-07, 10:09 AM | I can't seem to find it in the UTP pdf... is it only in the paper book ? It's in the expanded edition, which is both print and PDF (along with two new prestige classes and all the artwork). Contact DSP and you'll get the updated download. |
