VoP Psion? [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-10-07, 02:21 PM For me, the flavor of psionics and especially psions seems to work well with the vow of poverty aesthetics. Does it work with in-game rules? As in, can I run a VoP psion? And if so, would it be a good idea as far as character optimization is concerned?

11-10-07, 03:40 PM It isn't ideal for a Psion but I would say it can still work. Just make sure your DM doesn't try to deny a psicrystal with VoP.

The big downside I see is that a Psion relies on psionic items as a backup to running out of power points or covering utility powers. So you would have to use feats that could still make you effective e.g. Psionic Weapon, where you can just expend your psionic focus again and again.

You couldn't craft psionic items and use Psychic reformation to replace it with a better feat.

So, if it is a low magic/psionics game where you make your Psion not totally dependent on power points, it can work, but I would be wary of it.

11-11-07, 08:54 AM If your DM agrees to extend the number of exalted feats i.e. by adding some psionic feats (like psionic talent) it is worth it in low-med magic campaign. also if you could convince your DM to alter psionc uncarnate's abilities (assume equipment, assume armor etc) it could be fun.

Taking Vow Of Poverty would work better for a gish. Otherwise the exalted strike ability is wasted. So perhaps egoist would be a good choice. Metamorphosis (much like polymorph) can replace entire classes on it's own. If you have that then you'll have no want for power, but there are certainly other ways to gish as a psion (Illithid Slayer, Elocator, multiclassing with Swordsage or Warblade, et cetera).
