| DarkTouch08-28-07, 09:35 AM | I've never played a War Mind before but was thinking of it. Then I went to look at the pre-req for it. Knowledge(Psionics) 8. I had been under the impression that the class was for characters from non-psionic classes who wanted to jump into psionics later in their careers. Say fighter/ranger/barbarian types. But with Knowledge Psionics set so high, who really can single class qualify for this? It looks like a single class Wizard with wild talent can jump into it a whole lot earlier than a single classed fighter with wild talent. |
| SlanderPanic08-28-07, 10:07 AM | I've always seen it as a class for psychic warriors and soulknives, personally. Characters from other classes can jump into it pretty easily, but need a level or two in a psionic class for it to really work for them. A ranger/nomad/war mind would probably work out pretty well, especially if the character was a human with the Adaptive Learning feat. (Cross-class skills cost one skill point per rank with the feat. Combining this with the rule for cross-class skills for multiclass characters means that all your class skills remain class skills no matter what.) There's a lot of MAD in that combo, though: Intelligence for skills and psion power points, Dexterity and Strength for ranger combat abilities, Wisdom for ranger spells and war mind powers... If you've got good rolls, it's still very do-able. |
| Bacris08-28-07, 10:21 AM | The Educated feat would work... |
| DarkTouch08-28-07, 10:40 AM | I always forget about Educated. Thanks. I have difficulty justifying a Psychic Warrior/War Mind when the War Mind has its own manifester advancement. A level dip into Soulknife might work for a Xeph fighter however. |
| SlanderPanic08-28-07, 11:32 AM | Manifester level isn't as important for most psychic warrior powers as it is for psion/wilder powers, so taking an ML hit to move into war mind isn't too big a deal. You lose some inflatability, but you make up for that by gaining class abilities that let you inflate yourself without spending power points or actions. Psychic warrior 10/war mind 10 is a solid combo. Psychic warrior 20's nice and solid, too. If you're going xeph fighter/war mind, you're probably best off starting with Educated and just going straight into war mind. Dipping into soulknife doesn't really give you anything useful, aside from a short sword you can't lose. |

| Bukowski08-28-07, 02:41 PM | Knowledge devotion feat from Complete Champion is another option, as long as you don't mind having a psionic character with a bit of faith. It'll also give you insight bonuses on atk/dmg against opponents. |
| sijigs08-29-07, 09:39 PM | except for the fact that you're dispel bait. Who isn't these days? Get a ring of counterspelling as soon as you can afford it. Buy items that will expand your PP reservoir. Attack spellcasters as soon as you can ID them. |
| zuul8808-30-07, 04:18 AM | Human Paragon levels will get you Knowledge(Psionics) skill. 3 Human Paragon/2 Fighter/10 Warmind/5 ???????? The only thing is you lose the +2 levels of manifesting from the paragon levels. |
| skerbgs08-31-07, 02:31 AM | ...if the character was a human with the Adaptive Learning feat. (Cross-class skills cost one skill point per rank with the feat.... The feat you're thinking of is Able Learner from ROD. Human Paragon levels will get you Knowledge(Psionics) skill. 3 Human Paragon/2 Fighter/10 Warmind/5 ???????? The only thing is you lose the +2 levels of manifesting from the paragon levels. You only need 1 level in Human Paragon to get Knowledge (Psionics) (or any other skill) as a permanent class skill, so there's no need for the other 2 levels. The human paragon can choose any ten skills as class skills. Adaptive Learning (Ex) At 1st level, a human paragon can designate any one of his human paragon class skills as an adaptive skill. This skill is treated as a class skill in all respects for all classes that character has levels in, both current and future. |
| SlanderPanic08-31-07, 10:06 AM | Woops. Thanks for the catch! |
