| dnddreamer03-15-07, 03:06 AM | Sweeping Strike (Ex) At 5th level, a war mind gains the ability to make great, sweeping swings with a melee weapon. On each melee attack a war mind makes, he can choose squares he threatens that are adjacent to each other, and his attacks apply to creatures in those two squares equally. A war mind can use this ability on any attack, even an attack of opportunity or a cleave attempt. A war mind cannot use this ability if he has moved more than 10 feet since the end of his last turn. If a war mind drops one or both of his foes with a sweeping strike, he can attempt a cleave normally; however, he makes only one cleave attempt per sweeping strike, even if he drops more than one foe. So, am I reading this currently, that if I have two attacks per round due to my BAB and I have two opponents adjacent to me/each other, then I could attack each one twice during that round with two Sweep Strikes? |
| Suldarr'essalar03-15-07, 03:50 AM | yes. Even better, if oune of them drops, and you have cleave, you can cleave the second one (and another foe adjacent to that one). |
| SlanderPanic03-15-07, 12:40 PM | Or go soulknife/war mind. Sweeping strike combos very nicely with bladewind, especially if you have a transporter in your group who can put you in advantageous positions without you having to move much. |
| dnddreamer03-15-07, 01:29 PM | Are both attacks handle individually or can I apply Psionic Weapon to each attack in one sweep? |
| SlanderPanic03-15-07, 02:19 PM | It says your attacks apply equally, which means one attack roll is counted against both creatures. It doesn't say anything about damage, but it's probably meant to be rolled individually. Since you're sweeping your weapon, it makes sense that you should designate one opponent that gets hit first. Ask your DM. For example, Urik the half-giant is surrounded by orc fighters and an orc blackguard, like so: ....OO ..OUB ..O Urik gets three attacks a round. He chooses to attack the blackguard and the orc in the upper-right square and he also chooses to expend his focus for Greater Psionic Weapon and blow a couple of power points on his weapon's deep crystal. He designates the blackguard as his first target, since said blackguard is the most dangerous of the two. If he rolls high enough to hit both enemies, the extra damage goes to the blackguard. If he rolls high enough to hit the orc, but not the blackguard, the orc takes the extra damage, since he's the only opponent struck. If he drops either of the two, his Cleave feat kicks in and he gets a bonus attack. His sweeping strike applies to cleave attempts, too. Let's say he dropped the blackguard, since he got that whole pile of extra damage. He's got a choice between any two orcs he wants for his cleave attempt. He chooses both of the upper-row orcs, since he knows he can probably drop the upper-right orc, which will activate his Great Cleave and allow him to select another pair of adjacent opponents (in this case, the upper-middle orc and the orc to his immediate left.) If his luck holds out like it has so far, he could take out the entire circle of orcs before even getting to his second regular melee attack. It's even more potent if he has reach (via expansion, perhaps.) |
| dnddreamer03-15-07, 04:01 PM | wow...I've never looked at the War Mind before the other day. Has there been discussion whether the Sweep Strike is balanced since there isn't a limit to how many times per day the War Mind can do it? |

Has there been discussion whether the Sweep Strike is balanced since there isn't a limit to how many times per day the War Mind can do it? Oh noes! He can use an ability at will! How often can the fighter Power Attack or the rogue sneak attack? At will? Oh noes! It's five levels in a PrC that is either very hard to qualify for (if you're not a manifester) or nonprogressive (if you are a manifester). It's okay to not suck at that level. |

| Tempest Stormwind03-15-07, 07:05 PM | So...I'm taking it Tempest that you think this PrC suxs. No. I think it's fine. I'm just mocking you for claiming that an at-will ability that's five levels deep in a nontrivial PrC to be imbalanced. It's fine. |

It's fine. he did not claim it was unbalanced, no need to jump all over him, he was saying he didnt know if it was balanced and was wondering if there was a discussion on it. |

Has there been discussion whether the Sweep Strike is balanced since there isn't a limit to how many times per day the War Mind can do it? I guess I should of been more specific in my post. In my opinion, I think it is a cool PrC and cool ability (sweep strike)...but with all the petty people on the boards I was just asking if someone would of been screaming "broken". I personally don't think it is broken but is pretty balanced. Forgive me for speaking what I thinking at that exact moment after reading the previous post. |
