| Bullvinne01-18-08, 07:26 PM | howdy, im going to be making a level 7 Kalashtar Psion Uncarnate and I need to figure out which disipline to go. Im thinking of Seer, Telepath, or Shaper for utility since that is the main goal of my character since we have alot of melee damage and a magic nuker already. What would yall suggest for those three? |
| tenguroEd01-18-08, 08:57 PM | go shaper. In one of are ongoing campaigns we have a shaper and comes in handy every single session. |
| Bullvinne01-18-08, 09:27 PM | what is it that makes him so helpful? |
| Omnirahk, half-Rahkshi01-18-08, 09:45 PM | what is it that makes him so helpful? Here's your answer: Psionic Minor Creation: Remember, most poisons in D&D are made out of natural products. Take Black lotus extract for example. 1 cubic foot is equal to 998.84736 ounces of water, or 998.84736 full vials, or 998 doses of the Black lotus extract. At level one. Well, one part of it. Especially in Eberron, where you could have an artificer. With a shaper providing raw materials, you won't have to stop in civilization to make your products. And even if you are in a city, now you've got all you need for black market operations. Plus, Astral Construct is just awesome. Psionic Repair Damage is incredibly useful if you've got a warforged in the party. |
| Bullvinne01-18-08, 10:01 PM | well no warforged in the party, and minor creation is temporary so anything the artificer was to create with it would dissappear very soon. astral construct is good but I can EK it at third level. now compare that to all the knowledge gaining power of the seer or the control power of the telepath? is the ability to make temperary plant items and the other creation feats worth going shaper? i know they get crystalize which is kinda kewl, crystalize an opponent then fabricate him into a bunch of dorjies(sp?). but is it worth it if astral construct is the only best one? |
| Bullvinne01-18-08, 10:01 PM | edit: double post |
| The_Mess01-18-08, 11:13 PM | I think shaper or kineticist would be your best bet, shaper for the Astral Construct mentioned, and for mood (interest in the astral energies leading him to adopt a bodiless existence). Kineticist because all the TK options will really help you once you lose your body. A telepath who decides to become "pure mind" is another good option. Probably the worst is Egoist. His powers all focus on the body, giving his body up rather defeats the purpose. |
| InkBlot01-19-08, 02:35 AM | Shapers get easy access to all the best ways to mold physical reality without using your hands. Minor creation is neat because it only costs 1 power point, but Shapers also have over a half dozen other great powers. Using feats on Expanded Knowledge is expensive. Kinetecists actually don't have most of the best telekinesis powers. Far hand, telekinetic force, telekinetic maneuvers, and telekinetic thrust are all on the Psion/Wilder list. Control objects is only good at very low levels, not much better than far hand, and strictly worse than astral construct. Telekinetic sphere is very nice, but you won't learn 8th level powers until your 19th character level anyway. Control winds can be neat with a multiple-concentration trick (schism or solicit psicrystal), but is strictly battlefield control. |
| Bullvinne01-19-08, 12:24 PM | yea im having a hard time debating on the shaper or seer |
| deadkoo01-19-08, 04:34 PM | Personally I love telepaths. But, if you are not going pure mind then they aren't really worth it.. Shapers ftw of overall handiness to have around.. |
| CryoSilver01-20-08, 01:55 AM | Take a look at Ghostly Grasp in Libris Mortis once you go fully uncarnate. It lets incorporeal creatures manipulate corporeal objects normally. |
| Tedronai01-20-08, 07:46 PM | If you're allowed access to the Mind's Eye expanded class options for the Telepath, and the Mindsight feat from Lords of Madness, then DEFINITELY go Telepath. This will let you 'see' and non-mindless creature within 5'/ML regardless of the fact that you're actually hiding in the floor (or wall, or some other such solid object in the area). That, combined with either Burrowing Power, or, more preferably, Flyby Attack, and you'll likely never be able to be attacked EVER AGAIN, by ANYONE. (unless your DM throws a mirror match at you) Otherwise, go Shaper for the ultimate in utility with a minimum of EK expenditures. |
