... psychic warriors had disiplines too? has any body had any thoughts on this? if so share them here.

To what end?

Psychic warriors are already tremendously diverse in terms of what they get -- lots of bonus feats from a huge list, a great list of powers to choose from, full martial and armor proficiency. However, the FOCUS of these is all terribly narrow, namely, that of psychically-empowered combat. As a result, they have no need for disciplines in the same way that bards have no need of school specialization. Just as a particular bard might focus on enchantment more than illusion, a particular psychic warrior might focus on transforming his body into a pouncing natural-weapon machine instead of granting precognitive edges in a defensive yet otherwise mundane combat style.

I never said they needed a discipline. that if they did what would these focus on. I was thinking that maybe they could focus on certain combat styles like archery or mounted combat. Maybe they could get powers not on their list of powers or get ones that are sooner than normal.

You may want to checkout the new Mind's Eye articles. One of them has a replacement ability for the psy warrior which grants them access to a single mantle. While not quite a discipline, it is mechanically similar.

you are right. I have seen this earlier I checked it out the same day it came out.

I would just like to see at least one idea for a discipline before I let this thread die.

I don't understand. Are you asking for a psy warrior only discipline? If so, whats wrong with the psy warrior powers list thats already in place?

He means: IF psywars had a choice of combat-focused disciplines what would they choose? Example discipline focuses: Maneuvers (tripping, feinting, etc. not ToB Maneuvers), Melee Combat, Ranged combat, etc.

Could not have said it better myself.

Maybe "discipline" is a bad word for this. Discipline already has two meanings within the psionics system. I'm going to call these "stratagems."

Strategic Warrior Variant
Loses: 1st level bonus feat, Psychic Warrior power list
Gains: Stratagem class feature

Stratagems are superficialy similar to mantles. Like a mantle, stratagems offer a list of powers and a granted ability. Unlike mantles, a stratagem also grants additional class skills, and is themed around combat strategies rather than general philosophies.

Any time after 1st level, when you gain a bonus psionic or fighter feat you can choose to adopt a new stratagem instead. If you do so, do not recalculate your ranks in any new class skills which you bought at the cross-class rate.

Tactician: A psychic warrior who studies this stratagem looks at a battle and sees a game of chess. When fighting, she seeks to move the pieces into the proper position to assure victory.

Granted Ability: In order to use this ability, you must expend your psionic focus. You gain a +4 bonus on an opposed check or roll made to bull rush, disarm, overrun, sunder, or trip.

Class Skills: A psychic warrior following this stratagem adds the following skills to her list of class skills; Balance (Dex), Knowledge (History) (Int), Tumble (Dex), and Psicraft (Int).

Power List: You can learn powers from the following list:
1st - entangling ectoplasm, expansion, psionic grease, grip of iron, inspire mount*, stomp, synchronicity
2nd - distracting shout*, dimension swap, extend reach*, feat leech, hustle, prowess, psionic lion's charge, strength of my enemy
3rd - empathic feedback, mental barrier, ubiquitous vision
4th - anticipatory strike*, psychokinetic weapon*, steadfast perception, telekinetic manuever
5th - empower weapon*, metaconcert, perfect riposte*, greater stomp*
6th - blackstone hammer*, dispelling buffer, energy claw*, power thief*

Archer: A psychic warrior who studies this stratagem cultivates the patience and perception required to strike a target from the longest distances. She orbits the battlefield, striking with precision at the most vital targets.

Granted Ability: Choose one thrown or projectile weapon you are proficient with. You can use your Wisdom modifier in place of your Dexterity modifier to determine your attack bonus with that weapon. "Ray" is a valid choice for this ability.

Class Skills: A psychic warrior following this stratagem adds the following skills to her list of class skills; Hide (Dex), Move Silently (Dex), Spot (Wis), and Listen (Wis)

Power List: You can learn powers from the following list:
1st - bolt, chameleon, compression, crystal shard, energy ray, extend range*, metaphysical weapon, defensive precognition, offensive precognition, offensive prescience
2nd - clairvoyant sense, crystal storm*, dissolving weapon, energy push, ethereal volley*, psionic levitate, perfect archery*, power weapon*, psychic scimitar*
3rd - escape detection, evade burst*, psionic keen edge, telekinetic boomerang*
4th - steadfast perception, weapon of energy
5th - empower weapon*, hail of crystals, living arrow*, psionic true seeing
6th - psionic disintegrate, energy conversion, reddopsi

Werebeast: A psychic warrior who studies this stratagem has the spirit and the instincts of a ferocious beast . In battle, she transforms into a ferocious inhuman beast and tears into her "prey" with bloody claws.

Granted Ability: To use this ability you must expend psionic focus. When you manifest a psychometabolism which targets yourself you gain a Natural Armor bonus equal to the level of the power. This bonus lasts for the duration of the power.

Class Skills: A psychic warrior following this stratagem adds the following skills to her list of class skills; Handle Animal (Wis), Intimidate (Cha), Listen (Wis), Spot (Wis), and Survival (Wis)

Power List: You can learn powers from the following list:
1st - adreneline boost, biofeedback, bite of the wolf, claws of the beast, elfsight, expansion, grip of iron, metaphysical claw, prevenom, prevenom weapon, thicken skin
2nd - animal affinity, psionic darkvision, distracting shout, painful strike, prowess, psionic scent, psionic lion's charge
3rd - claws of the vampire, danger sense, duodimensional claw,
4th - claw of energy, truevenom,
5th - psychofeedback,
6th - form of doom,

Duelist: A psychic warrior who studies this stratagem believes that the only honorable combat is a fair fight between two equaly armed warriors. In battle, wether she preferes a shield or parrying dagger, she is a master of single combat.

Granted Ability: To use this ability you must expend your psionic focus, and be holding either a shield or a light weapon in your off-hand.

Once per round when you are hit in melee combat, you may make an attack roll with your off-hand (as an immediate action) to negate the hit. The hit is negated if your attack roll is greater than the opponent’s attack roll. Essentially, the attack roll result becomes your Armor Class if it’s higher than your regular AC.

Class Skills: A psychic warrior following this stratagem adds the following skills to her list of class skills; Balance (Dex), Bluff (Cha), Intimidate (Cha), and Tumble (Dex)

Power List: You can learn powers from the following list:
1st -
2nd -
3rd -
4th -
5th -
6th -

Relocator: A psychic warrior studying this stratagem knows that the surest way to get killed on the battlefield is to stand still. On the battlefield she is a blur of movement, darting from enemy to enemy to take advantage of momentary openings in their defenses.

Granted Ability: As long as you are psionically focused and not wearing heavy armor, you gain an enhancement bonus to your speed of 10 feet. This increases to 20 at 7th level, 30 at 13th level, and 40 at 19th level.

Class Skills: A psychic warrior following this stratagem adds the following skills to her list of class skills; Balance (Dex), Escape Artist (Dex), Knowldege (Geography), and Tumble (Dex)

Power List: You can learn powers from the following list:
1st -
2nd -
3rd -
4th -
5th -
6th -

*This power can be found in Complete Psionics

stratagems is a much better word for it and oddly enough the first one you mention is one that I already have for a psychic warrior that I already have made. I will be working on power suggestions for the last two you have along with new stratagems.

I've got powers in mind for all the stratagems I made, but I ran out of time while typing them up. I don't have much time right now either. Later tonight I should be able to fill all the power lists.

I don't deal with psionics much, but let's see what I can do with these strategems.

Cavalier: Your mount recieves your Wisdom bonus as a bonus to AC and damage rolls as long as you are mounted and psionically focused. In addition, you may add your Wisdom bonus to Ride checks.

Crusader: By expending your psionic focus you may make a smite evil attack. This ability can be used any number of times per day.

Defender: As long as you are psionically focused and carrying a shield, you add your Wisdom modifier to your AC as a dodge bonus.

Note: I have access to the bare minimum amount of powers (SRD) so I'll just leave that to you.

not so sure wisdom bonus to AC such a good idea it seems a little unbalanced that a character can benefit from armor, wis, and dex. Now I know that the sword sage gets it and I know that if you expend your psionic focus you lose these bonuses but it just feels wrong to me. Oh and nice Ideas. I was thinking about something like those I just haven't had much time to make them.

I've been looking through the XPH and ComPsi, and there just aren't enough powers to fill all these lists. So I'm giving up.

Have fun!

I think Cavalier is fine, but I want to change the other two:

Defender: As a free action at the beginning of each turn, choose one ally within 30 ft. This ally gains your Wisdom bonus to AC as a dodge bonus, though this bonus can never be higher than 1/2 your psychic warrior level (minimum 1).

Mindkill: Once per day, plus once per five levels in psychic warrior, the psychic warrior can make a special mindkill attack as long as they are psionically focused. When the psychic warrior uses this ability, they make a normal melee attack and add their Wisdom modifier to attack rolls, and your opponent loses an amount of PP equal to your psychic warrior level. This ability only works against creatures with Power Points or psi-like abilities.

In addition:

Weapon Master: Choose one weapon with which you are proficient. Add 1/2 your Wisdom modifier to ATK rolls with chosen weapon, and your full Wisdom modifier to DMG rolls with chosen weapon. The bonus to ATK can never be higher than 1/2 your psychic warrior levels, and the bonus to DMG can never be higher than your psychic warrior levels.

I was just looking at the amount of powers and what they were in the strategems and I thought to myself that there was quite alot of powers compared to a psions disiplines and alot of them were also available to all psichic warriors at the same level as original if that makes any sense.
InkBlot

Psions get the Psion/Wilder list and a Discipline list. Strategic Warriors only get a Stratagem list.

Each Stratagem needs to have at least 21 powers, so that a character who takes just one will be able to fill up all his powers-known slots. A little more than 21 is preferable, so that two people with the same strategem can have some slight variation in their powers.

If you design a stratagem with less than 21 powers in a stratagem, then you are forcing any character who takes that stratagem to trade her feats for more stratagems just to get a full power list.
Zylo_Drizzt

yes but what I am saying is just like the psion you can pick things that are off of the psychic warrior strategem list and on the psychic warrior list.
InkBlot

04-23-07, 03:11 PM
That's not the way I wrote it. If you take a stratagem, you completely lose the psychic warrior list.
