| draco111911-18-07, 04:14 AM | The Soulbow PrC requires the Soulknife's Throw Mind Blade class feature to enter, but it says that the Mind Arrow created functions like an arrow fired from a Composite Longbow of the appropriate size, except in appearance. It also states that, in order to create said Mind Arrow, you must have at least one hand free. 1) Does this mean that a Mind Arrow is a projectile weapon that only requires 1 hand? Or is it a thrown weapon? 2) If it is a projectile weapon, does Proficiency (and Focus, Specialization, etc.) with it meet the requirements for an Archery PrC (such as Cragtop Archer [RoS] or Order of the Bow Intiate)? 3) If it is a thrown weapon (this also applies to a thrown Mind Blade), does the power Extend Range work on it, or does it have to be a physical weapon? 4) Would an Illumine Soul's permanent Undead Bane enhancement also apply to a Mind Arrow, if a character took both PrCs? |
| AstralFireIX11-18-07, 04:41 AM | Ranged weapons/Soulknives need love anyway, and given the ambiguous nature, I let them function either/or as-is most advantageous to the player. By RAW, however, they are just one-handed ranged. This is ambiguous, but many believe they can be TWFed. To the last question, yes. |
| Count Nerindil Van Seraph11-19-07, 01:27 PM | Mind Arrow 1d8, x3 Range: 200 yards. Special Effects: Yaks struck by Mind Arrows must make a DC 25 Fort save or die. That's telekinesis, Kyle. |
| carnivore11-19-07, 03:21 PM | 1) Does this mean that a Mind Arrow is a projectile weapon that only requires 1 hand? Or is it a thrown weapon? it is a Projectile Weapon... notice: "Mind Arrow (Su): As a free action, you can create a semisolid arrow composed of psychic energy distilled from your mind. If your base attack bonus is high enough to grant you multiple attacks, you can create multiple mind arrows as part of an attack. You must have one hand free to create and project a mind arrow." the Arrow is made of Psychic Energy which is Created and Projected by your Mind.... you focus with your finger to facilitate Aiming 2) If it is a projectile weapon, does Proficiency (and Focus, Specialization, etc.) with it meet the requirements for an Archery PrC (such as Cragtop Archer [RoS] or Order of the Bow Intiate)? ..... NO, OoBI requres "BOW" proficency and Weapon Focus(some BOW)... Cragtop archer only requires Far Shot which doesnt apply ..... but you could use the Class abilities of Both those PrC with a Soulbow and apply the features to your Mind Arrows when you shoot them 3) If it is a thrown weapon (this also applies to a thrown Mind Blade), does the power Extend Range work on it, or does it have to be a physical weapon? it is not a Throw Weapon ..... but Extend Range could be Allowed to work with it... a Reasonable Houserule 4) Would an Illumine Soul's permanent Undead Bane enhancement also apply to a Mind Arrow, if a character took both PrCs? it could ..... if your DM allows, but the SoulBow has a separate table for Special Weapon Enhancements.... and it says: "The special ability provided by this class feature does not stack with the soulknife's mind blade enhancement ability." i think it would be reasonable to allow the Illumine Blade Class ability to apply equally to Both Mind Arrows and Mind Blades :D |
| CrimsonDeath11-19-07, 03:49 PM | Cragtop archer only requires Far Shot which doesnt apply ..... Why wouldn't Far Shot apply? The mind arrow is identical in all ways (except visually) to an arrow fired from a composite longbow, which should include range increment. Incidentally, I just noticed that a Mind Arrow cannot look like a normal arrow, because it is explicitly not visually identical to an arrow fired from a composite longbow. (I'm sure they meant that it is necessarily identical to an arrow in all ways except visually, but not necessarily identical visually. That's not what they wrote, though.) It can look like a crossbow bolt, though. |
| carnivore11-19-07, 03:58 PM | Why wouldn't Far Shot apply? The mind arrow is identical in all ways (except visually) to an arrow fired from a composite longbow, which should include range increment. Far Shot does not apply because it is not weapon Specific.... so it does not determine if the character can use the weapon in question with the Class like the Order of the Bow Initiate Does..... you could throw Rocks and use some of the Class features of Cragtop Archer... however some Require Projectile Weapons :D |

If your dm lets you, you could probably twf it and go "'blam blam blam' mind bullets!" 2) no, it's not a bow, it's more like having 'arrow proficiency'. 3) no it's not a thrown weapon. Far shot feat would double it's range. No idea what extend range power is from. 4) I would hope so. Although you can't use the soulbow enhancements on the mindblade, I haven't seen anything that says you can't use soulknife powers with the soulbow. |
