I'm currently playing a Soulknife in a pbp game, and I find that I don't realy feel like my character is psionic. I mean, sure I have power points and I could get psionic focus if I wanted, but I can't use them for anything, since I didn't take any psionic feats. My character is basicly a Fighter with a fancy sword.

This led me to the big question of "What makes a character truly psionic?" Almost any character can have power points, but some of those characters that are psionic by the rules lack something to set them apart from the average sword swinging joe.

I think part of playing a psionic character is having some way that the strength of your character's mind influence what he does and how he does it. A Psychic Warrior feels psionic because from first level he is bringing to bear his mental force in the form of both powers and psionic feats. Who can't tell that a PsyWarrior is psionic? He obviously pushes his own body beyond normal limits with the force of his mind, wether in using Expansion to bulk up or if using Psionic Weapon to smash his foes face in.

What does everyone else think?

"What makes a character truly psionic?"

It is mostly in the roleplaying.

You make a sword of pure thought and run it thru your enemies....trust me they know your psionic.

*edit* If you REALY want some powers you can put a couple of lvl into Psion or Psychic Warrior and you'll be psylocke all over

Think of it this way, the Monk is a psionic flavored class. The monk has no psionic powers/feats/etc. The monk however 'feels' psionic. No go, and meditate on what this means to you.

It's all in the roleplaying / descriptions - seriously. This is where the "Truenaming Psionics" thread came from - just how little the "mechanics" mean to the "flavor."

I played a psion who the general populace thought was a sorceror - spontaneous casting, no spellbook, etc. My fellow PLAYERS knew I was a psion - the characters had no idea. And I'm playing an ardent right now who EVERYONE knows is psionic, because of how I roleplay him.
