| Killer_Rabbit12-20-07, 03:58 AM | Whats you favortie psion discipline? Why is it your favourite? For me it's the telepath. Not for any combat reasons, just like using attraction to attract dude 1 to dude 2 then use aversion the make dude 2 avoid dude 1. Then watch dude 1 chase dude 2 down the street. (really handy to use on guards if you want to break into a place.) |
| CrimsonDeath12-20-07, 06:22 AM | I like Psychoportation. It's everywhere you want to be. |
| TheKeyofE12-20-07, 11:27 AM | Didn't we just have a thread on this topic a couple months ago? I'm too lazy to check. For the record, mine is Telepathy. And CrimsonDeath, you should make a motivator of that. Unless someone already did one, I'm too lazy to check. |
| InkBlot12-20-07, 11:42 AM | I'm torn between nomad and seer. On the one hand, "where do you want to go today?" On the other hand, "who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?" Nomads can go anywhere. They give me an incredible sense of freedom, especially considering I'm just sitting at a table for 4-6 hours. Nomads also deal in a decent amount of tactical movement - positioning of allies and enemies around the battlefield. I've always preferred that over just standing in one place and hacking/blasting away. Seers can know anything. I tend to get a little paranoid about recurring enemy NPCs, and I worry about missing clues or major plot points. So being able to see through inn room walls to make sure that Mr. McFollowus isn't listening from the other side, and being able to see into the past to make sure Mr. McOnestepahead didn't enchant the room before we got there, really helps. Besides, I just love the "psychic detective" trope. The biggest downside is that this takes a decent DM, and the right type of adventure. For me it's the telepath. Not for any combat reasons, just like using attraction to attract dude 1 to dude 2 then use aversion the make dude 2 avoid dude 1. Then watch dude 1 chase dude 2 down the street. Cue the yakety sax. | GuyrtheadamantineOne12-20-07, 11:58 AM | Metacreativity. If you want it, wish it. |
| Killer_Rabbit12-20-07, 06:18 PM | Cue the yakety sax.[/URL] Exactly |
| Psionx12-20-07, 07:05 PM | I'd normally choose metacreativity because its the most powerful, but my favorite is psychoportation because you can mess with time. |
| Elz12-21-07, 01:24 AM | It's a toughy but... I like Telepathy.... Being immortal is kind of nice. |
| MindFlayerZoidberg12-21-07, 01:51 AM | Metamorphosis . . . I really like Kafka. |
| Lycanthromancer12-21-07, 01:31 PM | Thrallherd. . . I really like Kefka. http://www.doupe.cz/vaulty/finalfantasy/pictures/ff6kefka.jpgFixed. :P |
| MindFlayerZoidberg12-21-07, 04:07 PM | Haha, nice. |
| Suspect_Unusual12-21-07, 04:30 PM | I truly, honestly don't have a favorite discipline. I have too wide a range of preferred roles and character concepts to prefer one discipline over another. When choosing between 27 barrels of Awesome and a tanker full of Sweeeeeeet, there's no wrong answer. |
| hovnarr12-21-07, 07:22 PM | I used to have Egoist as my favorite with Shaper coming close, but now I'm a Seer convert! With EK cherry picks, research and paying for Chirurgery, a high level psion could have any power. So what it comes down to is low level power selection and class skills. Seer and Telepath are the skill winners. Looking at level 1-2 powers, I'd say Seer is best. Telepath is too redundant. Shaper, Egoist and Kineticist powers are better at higher levels than when you get them, and then you can EK them anyway. Clairvoyant Sense is something you want a.s.a.p. though - solves SO many problems. Seer is powerful and versatile at low levels when it matters, and has high Spot and Listen to show for the discipline choice at high levels. But like Suspect says - all are good. You can also make cool combos with all disciplines. How about a Nomad with EK: Astral Construct who swaps wounded allies with fresh crystalline recruits? There's someone you do not want to grapple, because you'll soon find yourself grappling something a lot less cuddly. |
| Wizard Random12-21-07, 07:52 PM | In 3.0 Telepathy was the shizzle, but in 3.5 Metacreativity is one discipline I can't do without. The Astral construct power allows you to fufill any role (if you are so inclined) and stuff like Astral Seed makes sure I can come back after my party members kill me. |
| CrimsonDeath12-21-07, 11:32 PM | Fixed. :P Kefka wasn't a Thrallherd. He was Pun-Pun. |
| archerpwr12-21-07, 11:37 PM | Psychometabolism: I think, therefore I'm it. |
| Starless12-22-07, 02:29 AM | I've always liked the Nomad. It's a shame giving them good Dexterity's silly, now, as that was part of what I liked about them (and 3.0 Psionics in general). They could use some better Discipline powers though--why they get Teleport and not Greater Teleport I'll never know. |
| CrimsonDeath12-22-07, 04:01 AM | I've always liked the Nomad. It's a shame giving them good Dexterity's silly, now, as that was part of what I liked about them (and 3.0 Psionics in general). It's not all that silly. It helps their AC and ranged attack rolls. The only time dumping Dex is a no-brainer is when you have heavy armor. |
| Zippis12-22-07, 09:23 AM | Clairsentience/Seer ... Low-level powers like Clairvoyant Sense, Object Reading, Sensitivity to Psychic Impressions ... with good DM (I don't mean DM protecting you and helping you, but running fair and full campaigns) you can prepare ahead, you can find clues, you can have INFORMATIONs ... and informations are power :) ... ok, anyway ... in combat-by-combat style of play you will be a little bit ... ehm :). Just pack Control Light to protect yourself ;) I mean - killing monstres is also funny, but there will be always other players hungry to do that job. I like to fill gaps in the party structure and be The Usefull One |
| hovnarr12-22-07, 11:15 AM | As a seer, I pick up Matter Agitation at level 1, and stay in the back enjoying the best armor and shield I can afford. At level 3, Burrowing Power and Clairvoyant Sense comes in for a devastating combo. Fry enemies in the next room without even opening the door! |
| MindFlayerZoidberg12-22-07, 02:03 PM | Psychometabolism: I think, therefore I'm badass. :P |
| archerpwr12-22-07, 02:30 PM | :P Nice. |
| Arco Versipellis12-22-07, 11:15 PM | I agree with the psychoportation and clairestience is a tough call. I like either one, especailly when I go gestalt, because I like to focus more on a single discipline of psionics that way. In the end, psychoportation. |
| Lycanthromancer12-25-07, 12:03 AM | For me, it really depends on the character. If I'm playing the party tank, it's psychometabolism - metamorphosis'd psicrystal for the win! Otherwise, it's generally metacreativity. I can squeeze more win out of that discipline than every other discipline put together (though I'd like to think that I've added some really nifty options with my revision - such as animate object and continuum facade; makes the other psions happy :) ). |
| Wizard Random12-27-07, 07:41 AM | Otherwise, it's generally metacreativity. Great minds think alike |
| Nabuchadnezzar12-27-07, 12:25 PM | Before CPsi: Metacreativity (Astral construct, creation and cocoons!) After CPsi: Psychometabolism (maybe better than a cleric at healing! Metamorphosis rocks) |
| Lionhearted12-27-07, 12:45 PM | Telepathy without doubt, why kill someone when you can force his to his knees praying to serve. Elsewise, Clairsentience most of my GM's think im to evil as an Telepath :D |
| CrimsonDeath12-27-07, 08:10 PM | Telepathy without doubt, why kill someone when you can force his to his knees praying to serve. Unless he's the one critter out of five who's immune to mind-affecting effects. |
| The_Mess12-27-07, 10:37 PM | If you can't control him, control someone else and make them fight him! |
| Lionhearted12-28-07, 12:08 PM | If you can't control him, control someone else and make them fight him! "you two! fight to the death" - stewie griffin |
| CrimsonDeath12-29-07, 12:09 AM | "you two! fight to the death" - stewie griffin *cue Star Trek fight music* |
| anarchy197312-29-07, 07:22 AM | Have played a Kineticist to L30, but his saving grace was a DM who allowed researching powers. Kineticists are much more than blasting, but my favorite would definately be the Egoist, have only played one, which was as a gish, but new campaign starting in new year will play a straight Egoist, should run to EPIC as well. |
| Lycanthromancer12-29-07, 12:15 PM | Start taking metamind at level 21. It's epic lose at <20, but epic win >20. :) |
| archerpwr12-29-07, 12:21 PM | Start taking metamind at level 21. It's epic lose at <20, but epic win >20. :) Compared to epic expanded knowledge, I'm not sure. Maybe if you start at level 30 and don't have to play through it. |
| anarchy197312-30-07, 05:52 AM | Good advice, but I think I'll just keep on plodding as a straight Psion next time, I'm sort of getting sick of taking Prestige classes, however that being said the Anarchic Initiate looks all win, no loss of manifestor level, lose 2 feats gain higher BAB & not too shabby class features ... Maybe an option. |
| Subtle12-30-07, 01:17 PM | I definitly enjoy playing a shaper. Astral Construct is simply the most fun ability in the game. |
| Lycanthromancer12-30-07, 02:20 PM | Mebbe you should try multiclassing as, say, a wilder? You get additional power points (unlike staying straight psion), you can add to your psion manifester level (through wild surge), can qualify immediately for anarchic initiate to add to your wilder's ML, and can still use your feats for epic level feats. All the better if you're using the Educated Wilder Variant. :) |
| Nabuchadnezzar12-30-07, 02:44 PM | Anarchic initiate requires several rank in knowledge (the planes), and that's cross class for the wilder. Actually it's easier to enter anarchic initiate as a psion. |
| Lycanthromancer12-30-07, 02:54 PM | I'm saying: go to level 20 as a psion, then take a few levels of wilder, then go anarchic initiate. |
| NightBreeze12-30-07, 03:10 PM | Psychoportation for me. The only thing in 3.5 that allows a good time control :P |
| Solstysse12-30-07, 06:29 PM | Psychometablism..."Oh you can hit me?" *poof heal, poof change* "Can you hit me now? Nope. Muuuuch Better." |
| Orihalconis12-31-07, 12:21 AM | I must be the only other Kineticist fan here. I played a Kineticist back when the XPH first came out, was one of the more devastating DDs in the party, and we had a wizard. |
