Hey all, I am building a shaper for a game that is starting up. We are starting at lvl 1 and I am looking for a good PrC to work toward.

My char is as follows:

Race: Tibbit
Class: Psion (Shaper)
Str: 11
Dex: 14
Con: 15
Int: 18
Wis: 11
Cha: 17
Setting: Faerun (Though the DM is new to setting and restrictions are loose.)
Books allowed: More or less anything. I just need ideas.

Yes, the stats are a lil high but that's ok because we run high-powered games. I was just wondering if someone could point me to a flavorful AND mechanically-useful PrC to work toward for this character. I know about the Constructor and whatnot but I would like to focus on other creative aspects of the character (ie: minor creation, etc). Is there anything out there?

Cheers!

there aren't any,

or rather there aren't any official prestige classes devoted specifically to the shapers Minor creation and Fabricate aspects.

On the other hand you don't need them.

You'll need this (tp://forums.gleemax.com/leaving.php?destination=http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php%3Ft%3D747757) to start, i'll go through my notes and see what i can find, to boost the creation and fabrication aspects.

The important question is if you will be allowed to use third party material (such as hyperconcious or untapped potential) or dragon material.

I'm allowed to use outside material pending approval. Though, I was allowed to use the Tibbit (Dragon Compendium) so I assume that she is at least open to outside sources.

Oh and as a tibbit you are going to love using the hamster ball method

Simply put, a 1st level manifester can produce a sphere of bronzewood 14 inches in radius, 1 Inch thick with 1 inch diameter holes. the sphere blocks line of effect while retaining line of sight, in addition the sphere has a hardness of 10 and 20 hit points, with a decent craft check you could have the sphere open from the inside with a latch (operable by a psicrystal) to provide you with line of effect while you close it with a move action.

Basically producing a psionic kitty in a hamster ball.

The routine would be something like

on initiative count.

Psicrystal opens the ball
You manifest
You close the ball.

Or you move around in the ball to set up for an attack next round.

Or you can us a hemisphere and stay in one spot popping open hatches to launch attacks or summon astral constructs, after which you can simply order them from in your "bunker"

You will want link power [Cpsi] which should decrease the manifesting times. It's not the clearest metapsionic feat.

That sounds truly fascinating. Praytell what craft check would be required to craft a hamster ball of bronzewood? Also, what book is bronzewood in?

I currently have 4 points sank into craft (poison) but I can move something around for a ball of psychic goodness.

Your link doesn't work. You copied a "you are now leaving" link, resulting in a double "you are leaving" when the forums added their own. Try this (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=747757).

But, yes, there are precious few psionic prestige classes out there.

And tibbit psions rock. I was going to play one the last time a capaign started, but the DM went all spazy over a character who spent all his time in cat form. FIRE BREATHING KITTY!

Only shaper-specific Untapped Potential PrC is the Phontype Impressionist. It's a 5 level PrC that focuses on making Astral Constructs with different forms. It's pretty closely tied with the new Shapechanging descriptor in that book though, and not the direction you seemed to want to go.

Amalmagist (same book) uses crystalline grafts (crystalics) to enhance himself. That might fit with your builder theme. Psicrystal Imprinter improves his psicrystal, turning it into far more than a mouthy, wall-climbing rock.

Good luck finding something.

There's always The Fabricator (http://www.sendspace.com/file/xvsbn9). It's my own design.

Not horribly flashy, but it's some good stuff if you USE YOUR MIND. Ooooeeeeoooooeeeeeoooo...

Bleh went through the books, here's what i got

Prestige classesThere aren't any psionic classes that aren't third party, however, i did find a prestige class that fits your concept. It will take a little retooling but its not that daunting. Here we go, Alchemist Savant Magic of Eberron Page 54. Change the feat prerequisites to Craft Tattoo Change the Special requirement to Imprint stone Modify the spells requirement to powers (3rd) Slight flavor tweak to class abilitiesIts slightly complicated but basically take the "spellvial" and brew potion modifications and keep the mechanics the same but reflavor the liquid potions into alchemicaly enhanced, etched stones (a sort of flavor melding of imprint stone and craft Tattoo.) they stay the same mechanics with splashes and other effect, but are described as stones that, for example, dissolve in the case of the mixture ability. As a slight modification you would need to change the table on page 55 to account for psionics slight differences. All you need to do is add the caveat that for every two power points used to augment a power the effective level of the power (for the purposes of "universal powders") is increased by one. This allows you to keep the limits in line with the original effects (since a few powers have effectively limitless augment totals) on the other hand it curtails the effects of damaging powers more so than its original counter part. While a spell would automatically scale up to its natural limit, the powered powders would be effectively to a 5th manifester level. Bronzewood is from the eberron campaign setting. I would suggest replacing craft poison with craft alchemy, The reason being is that alchemy can be used to make poison at -4 and the artiste crystal helps negate that. Getting a bronzewood sphere with latches and the hinges proper for a thumb less quadruped and thier pet rock would probably fall under wood working or carpentry (you could even make a case for trapmaking) and would most likely be a "high quality complex item" or a DC 20.

Bronzewood is basically a wood as hard as steel, Hardness 10 / Hit points 20

I might find some more, but Alchemy and Material "science" is kind of a neglected field in Dnd.

Also as a side note for fabricate here is a general rule of thumb its not perfect but it helps

There are three basic materials in Dnd

Wood, Metal, Stone

So lets take wood and take the common woods

Ash, black / Ash, white / Cedar, red / Cypress / Douglas Fir / Elm ( English ) / Oak / Pine ( Oregon ) / Pine ( Parana ) / Spruce ( Canadian ) / Spruce ( Sitka ) / Teak

which average out to about 0.5 g/cm

And then the most common metals used for building

brass / bronze / copper / iron / tin

Averages out to 8.2 g/Cm

And then stones

Limestone / Sandstone / Granite

Averages to roughly 2.5 g/cm

So Metal 8
Stone 2.5
Wood 0.5

Why is this important? because dnd doesn't give you an objects size in something fabricate can reference we have to guestimate the objects volume for fabricate.

Roughly it goes like this.

Decide the objects primary material.

((Object Weight)/(62.4))/ (Density modifier)= Cubic Footage

Its not ideal but its a rough and dirty way to get some numbers for fabricate to work with.

Thanks for the tips and classes guys! I think this is going to be a very interesting character concept and my DM (who happens to be my girlfriend :w00t: ) is going to want to harm me when I start making hamster balls and poisons.

Out of curiosity, where does it say that you can use craft (alchemy) to craft poisons? I looked in phb, dmg, and CompAdv and couldn't find it.

Actually had to hunt that down,

Its an older rule Characters with the Alchemy skill can substitute it for Craft (poisonmaking), but doing so imposes a –4 circumstance penalty on checks related to poisonmaking.

its "technically" still valid, at the very least we've been using it for years without a problem

I can just see someone kicking the ball with you spinning around in it :)
It isn't exactly stable footing when you're standing inside a ball...

Yeah... My DM/fiance threatened to do mean things to me if I was in a ball. Thus, I settled on making a funny little cat carrier-type thing... Kitty taxi?

You can always use the stats for cages from the Arms and Equipment Guide.
