There are three prestige classes, the Cognition thief, the Shadow Mind, and now the Psi-bond agent. Why so many? I assume that they are slightly different flavors, or takes on a similar theme. What are people’s thoughts? |

People enjoy playing typically non-magical/psionic roles (tank and skill-monkey) with a magical/psionic twist. Some people like doing it via multi-classing/prestige classing (hence the Shadowmind), some people like base classes that come with the mix already in existance (hence the Psychic Rogue). The Lurk isn't really a rogue class (no trapfinding is a dead giveaway)...it's more a stealthy scout/assassin/support-type class. The Psibond Agent is a completely different take on the whole issue. I don't even know where the Cognition Thief is from, so can't explain where it fits. But ultimately, it's for the same reason there are so many Gish classes: people want them. |

Normally rather than the inborn mastery of the universe say sorceres hav stories give thier heros a "trick" some sort of minor ability. That of course is combined with thier own cleverness and skill to maximize its use. Take for example the story "NightFall" in this store 1 in roughly 10,000 are born with a talent of some sort. In this case its the talent to alter his weight, altering his size (sort of a unique compression/expansion effect by hidden talent) combined with training he becomes a master thief. Psionics works very well with the Sneak + trick category. Its possible for example to play a game (with slight tweaking to avoid tpk) of only npc classes with hidden talent and pp bosting feats. You can still retain the magic feel (with each character taking different powers) will keeping magic at a very low level. While limiting magic to a leechlike class, that requires the capture of a talent user and the extraction of thier talent and pp. (each pp pool tallied separatly) which lets them use a wide range of powers but each one wears out and must be replaced with more sacrifice. |
