| sonofdrizzt06-12-07, 08:47 AM | are there any? I've been looking for one but it never seems to pop up. |
| Morwen06-12-07, 09:12 AM | I guess Spellscale (from Races of the Dragon) comes closest. As a sort of humanoid dragon, they're relatively close to lizardfolk in appearance. |
| JellyPooga06-12-07, 09:14 AM | I guess Spellscale (from Races of the Dragon) comes closest. As a sort of humanoid dragon, they're relatively close to lizardfolk in appearance. Either that or Kobolds...they're lizardy (hell, they've even got the Reptilian subtype) |
| ArochanoX06-12-07, 10:31 AM | Muckdwellers from FR (serpent kindoms I think) are tiny LA 0 lizards. MM3 has some useable lizards like poison dusk lizardfolk. Or you might just want toi check MM1 for reptilian subtype creatures. There are atleast some aquatic ones that are reptilian. |
| Mai_ariti06-12-07, 11:11 AM | Dragon Born (Races of the Dragon) are lizard-esque also. |
| AAB06-12-07, 01:18 PM | Rilkans and Skarn from Magic of Incarnum are both reptilian humanoids. |
| Gwenfloor06-12-07, 02:17 PM | Forgive my excessive use of one word, but: Kobolds! Kobolds! Kobolds! Kobolds! Kobolds! Kobolds! Kobolds! Kobolds! Kobolds! Kobolds! Kobolds! Kobolds! Kobolds! | Silverclaw06-12-07, 02:36 PM | And how about Kobolds? |
| Neutronium_Dragon06-12-07, 04:32 PM | If you don't mind unofficial ones, here's one that I've used in my games. They're styled as being warm climate adapted in general, but without being swamp-specific the way most D&D reptilians are. Thematically they also have a good memory and quick reflexes, as well as being hardy, which is covered by the bonuses. They're LA +0; while they seem to have a lot of abilities in the list, most of them are fairly minor in practice. All those saving throw bonuses, for example, would be surpassed in potency several times over by Great Fortitude. I also typically style them as being more human-shaped, and their coloration is more diverse (various mixes of reds, browns, blacks, yellows, greens, rather than all-green, all the time). Likewise, they're not specifically "lizard"; they (certainly their faces) might resemble a saurian or serpentine form, or various blends thereof. ----- Medium Humanoid (Reptilian) Base Speed 30' Low Light Vision +1 Natural Armor +2 Racial Bonus to Fortitude saves vs Blindness and Dazzle +2 Racial Bonus to Fortitude saves vs Disease and Poison +2 Racial Bonus to Fortitude saves and checks vs Fatigue and Exhaustion (including checks to keep running and to resist the effects of a forced march) +4 Racial Bonus to Fortitude saves to resist the effects of environmental heat, including all heat dangers Do not require additional water in hot climates +1 Racial Bonus to Initiative checks +1 Racial Bonus to Knowledge checks, Bardic Knowledge checks, Lore checks, and any similar checks made to recall information. Have the Run feat Automatic Languages: Common, Regional (if applicable) Bonus Languages: Any Favored Class: Any |
| BW022206-12-07, 05:00 PM | sonofdrizzt, Arcanis (http://www.paradigmconcepts.com/Arcanis/index.html) has ss'ressen. Players guide has the basics, while "Ssethregore: In the Coils of the Serpent Empire" goes into all the details on lizard-type races in the campaign. |
| EpicEvokerElf06-12-07, 05:55 PM | I've got one that nobody has said yet: kobolds! |
| Scipio06-12-07, 06:37 PM | Well since no one seems to be saying it I'll make a suggestion. Kobolds are good. |
| Amadeus Windfall06-13-07, 03:00 AM | There's also Anthromorphic Lizards from Savage Species. |
| sonofdrizzt06-13-07, 09:20 AM | Thx, I didn't expect such a rush. And, god, those kobolds sound great! |
| mercboy66606-14-07, 02:31 PM | Thx, I didn't expect such a rush. And, god, those kobolds sound great! ye great meals. and trophies. |
| Ecalsneerg06-14-07, 02:50 PM | sonofdrizzt, Arcanis (http://www.paradigmconcepts.com/Arcanis/index.html) has ss'ressen. Players guide has the basics, while "Ssethregore: In the Coils of the Serpent Empire" goes into all the details on lizard-type races in the campaign. But the entire race is very based on the campaign background for Ss'ressen, Arcanis is not as 'generic' as say, the Realms or Eberron, mainly because of its very different feel. |
| BW022206-15-07, 11:05 AM | Ecalsneerg, But the entire race is very based on the campaign background for Ss'ressen, Arcanis is not as 'generic' as say, the Realms or Eberron, mainly because of its very different feel. First, I don't buy that Eberron or Realms is any more generic than Arcanis. Soul mechs? Moon elves? Second, I don't see any reason one can't come up with their own background for ss'ressen and use them in another campaign -- lesser lizardfolk or something. The mechanics for them are darn generic. Third, if you do want reptilian races, the "In the Coils of the Serpent Empire" is about the best I've seen around. Races, feats, etc. and covers all races from kobolds and lizardfolk to nagas. Yes, the history is Arcanis specific and someone would have to alter it for a particular race, but no more than someone talking about moon elves or soul mechs. And, IMO, the ss'ressen if far more similiar to a lizardfolk to be dropped into a campaign than say a soul mech. |
| pres_man06-15-07, 12:22 PM | I would also suggest kobolds but use the racial variant: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20060420a |
| SpoonyBard06-15-07, 12:33 PM | You know what I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned enough? Kobolds. Pick up Races of the Dragon, and they're entirely viable characters. I played Kobold Sorcerer/Dragonheart Mage and he utterly pwned everything. |
| mkill06-15-07, 12:40 PM | I'd say the easiest way is take the standard SRD Lizardfolk and downgrade them to LA+0. Lizardfolk characters possess the following racial traits. * +2 Strength, +2 Constitution, -2 Intelligence. * Medium size. * A lizardfolk’s base land speed is 30 feet. * Racial Hit Dice: A lizardfolk begins with two levels of humanoid, which provide 2d8 Hit Dice, a base attack bonus of +1, and base saving throw bonuses of Fort +0, Ref +3, and Will +0. * Racial Skills: A lizardfolk’s humanoid levels give it skill points equal to 5 × (2 + Int modifier, minimum 1). Its class skills are Balance, Jump, and Swim. Lizardfolk have a +4 racial bonus on Balance, Jump, and Swim checks. * Racial Feats: A lizardfolk’s humanoid levels give it one feat. * Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A lizardfolk is automatically proficient with simple weapons and shields. * +5 natural armor bonus. * Natural Weapons: 2 claws (1d4) and bite (1d4). * Special Qualities (see above): Hold breath. * Automatic Languages: Common, Draconic. Bonus Languages: Aquan, Goblin, Gnoll, Orc. * Favored Class: Druid. * Level adjustment +1. --> * +2 Strength, -2 Intelligence. * Medium size. * A lizardfolk’s base land speed is 30 feet. * Lizardfolk have a +2 racial bonus on Balance, Jump, and Swim checks. * +1 natural armor bonus. * Natural Weapons: 2 claws (1d4) and bite (1d4). * Special Qualities (see above): Hold breath. * Automatic Languages: Common, Draconic. Bonus Languages: Aquan, Goblin, Gnoll, Orc. * Favored Class: Druid. Done. |
