| phasedoor07-29-07, 04:49 PM | For d20 DandD 3.5 by WotC, what can a Rock gnome's nose look like? Can it be smaller than it was in previous editions or versions of the rpg? Is there anything in any of the rulebooks about that? |
| AMGriffin07-29-07, 06:09 PM | based on the descriptions and pictures I've seen, Gnomes no longer have ridiculously large noses. Usually they have pretty big eyes though. |
| Perun07-30-07, 01:38 AM | based on the descriptions and pictures I've seen, Gnomes no longer have ridiculously large noses. Usually they have pretty big eyes though. They're described somewhere (PH? RoS?) as having slightly exaggerated facial features. Looking at various pics, artists tend to draw them with slightly enlarged eyes and ears. Basically, it's up to you how you want your character to look like. My gnomes have noses most humans would find too large. |
| Darth Syntax07-30-07, 01:41 AM | Generally, gnomes are detected as having large (but no longer grotesquely so) noses. It is a rare gnome that doesn't have a sizable schnoz. I usually end up seeing them as looking a bit like Ben Kingsly myself. |
| Neutronium_Dragon07-30-07, 01:59 AM | Here're a couple of color pictures from the art gallery: Nebin, iconic gnome wizard: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/ph35_gallery/PHB35_PG57_WEB.jpg Unnamed gnome from the ECS: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/eb_gallery/82087.jpg While their noses aren't exactly small, they aren't the lethal bludgeoning weapons of earlier-E gnomes either. |
| Rulebook07-30-07, 03:23 AM | those gnomes look like halflings! i like to give em big features (eyes, ears, noses) but not the noses of previous editions. just because it isnt 100% attractive by -human- standards dosent mean it has no place. |
| Seldriss07-30-07, 10:11 AM | According to which folklore descriptions you check, gnomes can be dwarf-like (garden gnomes) or elf-like (santa elves). As an example, in the russian version of Snow White, the seven dwarves are gnomes. Gnomes are often pictured with pointy nose, elaborated beards, colorful clothes and hats. But not always. Truly, gnomes changed in the third edition of D&D. They looked differently before. The fact is that, as many other small creatures, they are often drawn in a cute cartoonish way, thus exagerating their features, such as eyes, nose, ears... Don't pay too much attention to the "official" descriptions or illustrations. Gnomes are part of a race (actually several subraces), and should have many possible appearances : Skinny, chubby, stocky, small nose, wide nose, long nose, small eyes, big eyes, w-h-a-t-e-v-e-r. They don't need to look all the same. Your character looks like the way you describe him/her. |
| TheKeyofE07-30-07, 10:22 AM | Remember that gnomes get a racial bonus to Craft (Alchemy) because of their keen sense of smell, thus it does make sense to have larger noses proportional to their face than a human (just not ridiculously so, because that's silly and unnecessary). |
