A good source for +0/+1LA races [Archive] - Wizards Community

I'm working on a campaign setting with a friend of mine, and we've been looking around for races to select from, all which should be within the +0/+1LA range, so far we have, the standard from the PHB, Thri-Kreen, Shifter, Changeling, Kenku, Warforged and Warforged Scout. They're all from the monster manual books I,II,III,IV as far as i recall.

I have this "Bastards and Bloodlines" unofficial book, is it viable to use races from it, or should i just assume that they might be game breaking?
Any other good sources to find playable races?

10-06-07, 07:56 AM The "Races of..." line and the environment line (Frostburn, Stormwrack, Sandstorm, etc.) have some good stuff.

Myself, i have a catfolk (yeah, I know...) race for a campaign world in making, LA 0.

10-06-07, 05:27 PM I have seen the Bastards and Bloodlines and although not "game-breaking" some of the races in there have ability modifiers that would make them better than other LA +0 races and might make them too attractive (specifically the half-hobgoblin has a lot less negatives than positives and the Merg has +2 to Dex with no penalties plus other stuff). IMO, tho, it's not a huge difference once you get playing, about the same as better than average rolling.

I've played a couple just to experiment and it didn't seem too bad (like I said, more than anything it helped out if I had a really bad roll on one ability) but other friends of mine discouraged it and I didn't mind because I understand the reasons.

You can DM them to have bigger emphasis on their drawbacks to counteract, tho, like the Merg normally can't wear most gloves and boots because of webbed hands and feet and their appearance is supposed to put off most people, make it a little more important than it normally would be, maybe up their prices compared to other people, since maybe store owners wouldn't trust them, etc.
