I am currently using a minotaur character and in the monster manual it says that they start with 6 levels of monstrous humanoid, does this change the ability limit at all? i know if you are a half-orc that gets a plus 2 to strength, they cannot go over 18 regardless of the addition...But do the 6 levels of monstrous humanoid count for anything towards this? or is the limit of an ability still 18?

thanks ahead of time for any help i may receive.

For purposes of EXP needed, Starting Gold, and all that other good stuff, levels of monster classes (Hit Dice, in other words) are considered actual levels. LA however, only counts for EXP needed.

Where are you getting that half-orcs max out their Strength at 18? Without ability modifiers the highest you can go is 18, but that's only because that's the highest number you can roll on three d6's. As far as I know there's no such thing as an ability limit. Ever. Otherwise there wouldn't be half of the TO boards.

So, to answer your question...Yes, because the highest number you can roll on three d6's is 18. Unless you're cheating, or you have ability modifiers (which you do, playing a minotaur.) Is that what you were looking for? I actually don't really know how to answer this question. It's yes and no. Yes, 18 is the highest you can roll; no, 18 is not the highest your abilities can be.

A half orc can have 20 strength. Why do you think otherwise?
