A question about Yuan-Ti alignment [Archive] - Wizards Community

Yuan-Ti are said to be mostly chaotic evil. However, it escapes me how chaotic evil creatures can have a society such as theirs - a strict theocratical society with a complex system of social classes (the fact that the features of each half-blood determine its social rank sounds pretty complex). Such a society sounds quite lawful, really.
For that matter, I don't see how chaotic - especially chaotic evil - creatures can form any society whatsoever. At best, it should be a small group of people with no specific leadership.

P.S. Is there any chance we will one day see a supplement that elaborates about the Yuan-Ti? I find them quite cool.

The way I handle it, the Yuan-Ti have only one real rule: no Yuan-Ti kills any other Yuan-Ti.

Other than that, anything goes.

That doesn't really sound correct.
After all, there are different social classes => there are different attitudes towards these social classes. A "don't kill" attitude isn't quite versatile enough to handle that. :)

Serpent Kingdoms (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/fracc/965660000) is probably as close as you are going to get to an official yuan-ti supplement. Yuan-ti are not organized at all - their society's hard and fast divisions are based on immediately apparent, physical differences between the subraces. Although the yuan-ti are convinced of their species' supremacy, they are still highly competitive at all levels - individual, familial, tribal, etc. This conviction, combined with their absolute paranoia and self-serving natures, does result in the race's absolute unification against anything that is not scalykind, but prevents them from so much as trusting each other. The megalomania of even a pureblood is not to be underestimated.

When it comes to a CE society the following is a good guide.

1.You follow those superiours that would slaughter you if you didn't.
2.You tell your followers they die if they fail.
3.Outsiders are not wecome.
4.Backstabing.
5.Intrigue.
6.Politics.
7.Doubledealing.
