Aasimar worth the LA+1? [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-21-07, 12:02 PM Looking over the races for my new Cleric 1 / Crusader 4 / Ruby Knight Vindicator 3 I am contemplating taking the Aasimar race, more for flavor than anything else, but the LA+1 seems a bit high for +2 Wisdom and Charisma and the other assorted bits. Not that I don't think it should be a level adjustment race (darkvision, daylight 1/day, stat bonuses with no penalties and energy resistances) but is it worth it, in the long run? More of an optimization question than anything else really.

The other option is human, so by going Aasimar, I'd be losing a level, a feat and skill points, and gaining the above.

Thoughts on the race?

08-21-07, 12:45 PM Player's Guide to Faerun, somewhere in the back...

It's almost the same as the MM version, except for the fact that it's a humanoid with the planetouched subtype in stead of a native outsider, so it's vulnerable to Hold Person and the like.
It keeps al the other Aasimar goodies though :P

08-21-07, 01:01 PM One of their huge bonuses are the outsider type, but not many DM's let that into play (I might be wrong).

I think people (probably including me) dont realized how big a benefit it is.

08-22-07, 07:06 AM It can be a benefit and a pain. It gives slightly better alter self options, resistance to some spells and extra weapon proficiencies. Still, there are way more powerful +1s out there. The aasimar is a rather weak +1 imo.

08-24-07, 04:05 PM As a dm I don't use level adjustments of 2 or less unless it's from a template, but as a player I have never felt upset about the aasimars level adjustment. If it really starts to bug you just buy it off using the unearthed arcana rules if your dm allows them.
