You retain all your orignal ability score modifiers and gain a +2 con -2 dex on top of that. A dragonborn dwarf, for instance, would have a +4 con -2 cha -2 dex. Other than movement speeds, size, and ability score modifiers, you lose most of the traits from your original race.
