| sd-einsatzgruppen10-14-07, 12:26 PM | For some odd reason the Derro didn't make it into the Savage Species book and I have a player wanting to build one. Has anyone cooked up the ECL and class adjustment for Derro? |
| nighttree10-14-07, 01:47 PM | It's in the MM, page 49. ECL 5 for a "sane" Derro (3 racial HD +2 LA) |
| sd-einsatzgruppen10-14-07, 10:32 PM | Thanks. But I knew were to find the monster info on the Derro! ;) Only a level adjustment of two? With all those spell-like abilities, imbalanced stats, and other perks I would think they would rate higher. Or does that crippling ""sunlight kills them" thing balance that out? Oh yes...and my player is wanting to play a "pure" or non-insane Derro. Sounds like a good way to wreck havoc to me... |
| zeratulcraft10-14-07, 10:41 PM | The LA+2 and the Racial HD balance it out. |
| BugHunter10-14-07, 11:44 PM | A sane Derro gets dex +4, con +2, plus the other abilities are not any more powerful than a drow. The taking of con damage when exposed to sunlight is a big enough balancing factor unless your campaign is an Underdark setting. |
| Taureus_Drakken10-15-07, 01:08 AM | There's a feat in one of the books, LoM IIRC...That let's you lessen the penalties for having any sort of weakness to the sun. I am AFB, so if anyone can think of the book, that would be great. Otherwise, I don't think a Derro would make a very good PC...The whole insanity is kind of an issue, unless the party is evil, or the DM is lax in controlling the insanity... Just my two cents. ¬Taureus¬ |

| Taureus_Drakken10-15-07, 05:36 PM | But that's what makes them so much fun!!;) I know you "can't" have an insane derro for a PC, but as a DM I would allow it. The insanity could become quite interesting depending on the campaign. When I had said I didn't think an insane derro wouldn't make a good PC, I was only saying that the insanity would need to be worked out with a DM...Some DMs wouldn't mind doing so. ¬Taureus¬ |

Is that an official ruling that I am missing somewere or are you simply basing this on their absence from the Savage Species book? |
| nighttree10-15-07, 09:17 PM | It's based off of the entry in the MM. Anything that has an entry of "level adjustment -" is supposed to be out for PC characters (see page 7, 2nd to the last entry in your MM). Having said that, like Taureus_Drakken, I would probably allow it as a DM. Provided the player could convince me he was capable of REALLY playing the character that crazy (Insane Derro warmage go BOOM BOOM). |
