| Old_Man_Winter203-14-07, 03:03 PM | They only have LA listed for cohorts. What would be a suitable +LA for them as PCs? | paladin201903-14-07, 03:19 PM | Ummm, the same. A cohort can benefit from its special abilities just as much as a Pc can, so I don't see why there would be different LAs. |
| AllWillFall2Me03-14-07, 07:42 PM | Ithink the reason they aren't listed as a PC is the lack of functioning manipulators. They have no hands, tentacles, or other limbs able to grip effectively. |
| Old_Man_Winter203-14-07, 07:54 PM | paladin: ok thanks, I wasn't sure about that. allwillfall2me: what you says makes sense, would explain why some other intelligent magical beasts like unicorns don't have "player" LAs. Some do though (lammasu springs to mind). Thanks guys! By the way, anyone know where I can find a detailed and balanced set of pointers for calculating LA ? |
| Willie the Duck03-14-07, 10:05 PM | There isn't any except the good old fashioned acid testing (i.e. the hard way). Several attempts have been made to break every potential benefit down into a decimal portion of a whole LA. None of them come up with consistantly accurate "balanced" LAs. This, of course, is opinion. |

This, of course, is opinion. A highly agreeable opinion, at least to me. I use this solution: http://www.kobolds-keep.net/Progressions.pdf It lets you start from level 1 too. |
| Treymordin03-15-07, 06:38 PM | There are so many wonderful sphinxes out there. It is too bad that not all of the ones in the MM 3.5 or even 3.0 have been illustrated. |
| Antioch03-15-07, 06:54 PM | Back when Savage Species first came out the gynosphinx was one of the monsters that I made a level progression for; it came out to LA +7, for a grand total of 15 levels for the class. In comparison to a fighter, it works out pretty well. It you like I can email you the pdf file for the gynosphinx monster class, just send a request to antiochcow@hotmail.com. As a side note, I am playing a gynosphinx diviner in a campaign right now, and the lack of hands hasnt really been an issue (she uses ink and her claws to write spells, and a hand of the mage for fine manipulation; before that I used prestidigitation to move small things and more easily turn pages). |
