The savage speicies book has the anthro template that could help ya out a lot.]

The best class for it would either be a Ranger or maybe a monk. With the anthros high wisdom they make excellent monks.

If you do use the anthro template, keep in mind that it's a poorly implemented template that works with some animals and horribly breaks other. The anthro baleen whale and anthro bat being the two commonly cited for being broken.

When I saw this title, my first thought was "He wants to make Raptor Jesus".

So far, I haven't been disappointed.

Just keep in mind that the anthro template makes the animal lose a lot of its natural attacks and special moves. (For example, the anthro elephant loses its trample, but may or may not keep its tusks)

It may be just me, but I always thought that anthro was strictly underpowered compared to just awakening the animal. Oh, well.

yeah according to that book i can't make it raptor due to the low int or wis score so therefore i hate to say it but i can't do it!

Just break the rules, they even have a section on breaking template rules in savage species. I'd make favored class for anthroraptor ranger (hunting animals typically get ranger), maybe allow them to keep the foot talons.

THATOS
+2 Str, +2 Cha, -2 Con
Medium Humanoid (Thatos).
Base land speed is 20 feet. Thatos have a fly speed of 50 feet (average maneuverability).
Improved Low-Light Vision: A thatos sees four times as far in areas of dimmer illumination as a human.
Talons: At its discretion, a thatos can deal lethal damage with its unarmed strikes. It may choose to deal slashing or piercing damage as well. A thatos's unarmed strikes count as talon attacks for the purposes of dive attacks. Thatos can wield unarmed strikes of one size larger than they actually are with no penalty.
+4 racial bonus on listen and spot checks.
Automatic Languages: Common, Thatos. Bonus Languages: Any (except for secret languages).
Favored Class: Any.

Well, it IS a raptor.

here is an Anthro Raptor (Deinonychus)

Anthropomorphic Deinonychus (Raptor)
Size/Type: Medium Monstrous Humanoid
Hit Dice: 2d8+8 (17 hp)
Initiative: +2
Speed: 60 ft. (12 squares)
Armor Class: 15 (+2 Dex, +3 Natural), touch 13, flat-footed 13
Base Attack/Grapple: +2/+2
Attack: Talons +6 melee (1d8+4)
Full Attack: Talons +6 melee (1d8+4) and 2 foreclaws +1 melee (1d3+2) and bite +1 melee (2d4+2)
Space/Reach: 5 ft./5 ft.
Special Attacks: Pounce
Special Qualities: Darkvision 60 ft, Scent
Saves: Fort +5, Ref +5, Will +5
Abilities: Str 19, Dex 15, Con 19, Int 11, Wis 14, Cha 14
Skills: Hide +12, Jump +14, Listen +12, Spot +12, Survival +12
Feats: Run
Environment: Any
Organization: (None)
Challenge Rating: ???
Treasure: Standard
Alignment: Any
Advancement: By character class
Favored Class: Ranger

that using the RAW from Savage Species, including the +8 racial bonus to hide, jump, listen, spot, and survival that Deinonychus get. the slightly more balanced version i would use is below, written up in an "XXX as Characters" style:

Anthro Raptor characters possess the following racial traits.

* +8 Strength, +4 Dexterity, +8 Constitution, +2 Wisdom, +4 Charisma.
* Medium size.
* An anthro raptor’s base land speed is 60 feet.
* Darkvision out to 60 feet.
* Racial Hit Dice: An anthro raptor begins with two levels of monstrous humanoid, which provide 2d8 Hit Dice, a base attack bonus of +2, and base saving throw bonuses of Fort +1, Ref +3, and Will +3.
* Racial Skills: An anthro raptor’s monstrous humanoid levels give it skill points equal to 5 × (2 + Int modifier). Its class skills are Hide, Jump, Listen, Spot, and Survival.
* Racial Feats: An anthro raptor’s monstrous humanoid levels give it one feat.
* +3 natural armor bonus.
* Special Attacks: Pounce.
* Special Qualities: Darkvision 60ft, Scent.
* Automatic Languages: Common. Bonus Languages: Draconic, Elven,
* Favored Class: Ranger.
* Level adjustment +3.

it could keep the talons (cannot wear boots) or the hand claws (increase damage to 1d4), but not both; the talons would remove an item slot, but keep the feel of the raptor, while the hand claws would work better for an anthro character. either way, they keep the bite (decrease damage to 1d6). also drop the deinonychus' racial skill bonuses, they are too much. this was thrown together in about 20 minutes...how's it look?

EDIT: i re-added the charisma bonus. the more i thought about it, Raptors do have one HELL of a presence.

Wouldn't the talons also be more useful in that you could attack with your hands full like a monk?

yeah, and it really keeps the feel of the raptor. if they pounced on you with those nasty looking talons, you were damn near torn in two before you hit the ground.

since i have nothing to do for the next few hours, im going to try running the anthro raptor through YabbatheWhat's FeaturePoints system for fun. wish me luck.

Hmm, several errors according to the SS Anthromorphs rules
Proper statistics:
Dex +6 con +6 wis +4 cha +4 Base int 10
NA +2
Fort +0

If you on the other hand used a megaraptor
Large monstrous humanoid (3d8 monstrous humanoid hitdice, +3 BaB, +1 fort, +3 ref, +3 will)
+2 str, +6 dex, +6 con, +6 wis, +4 cha base int 10
+3 NA
yada yada..

You always has to adjust the ability scores to the new size!

look in the MM errata, deinonychus are medium size now. also, for the anthro raptors as characters, i switched the +4 cha to -4 cha, since i hardly see raptormen as charismatic.

Really? :D damn im making an anthroraptor
on the charismatic part... mind that Beholders has a Charisma of 18
Spiritwalker

11-19-07, 07:21 PM
I can see Raptors as very charismatic, under the right circumstances. Very impressive, good in a fight, and if you want to go totally fantasy and sell out to hollywood - they even may have had their own language and thinking ability akin to a fully sentient species (but that's just Jurrasic Park. We'll never know the truth)

other than that, i agree with ranger being a favored class, but the level adjustment seems a little steep to me, considering an anthro leopard or tiger is only +2 and +1 respectively.
Jeffcole1

11-19-07, 08:07 PM
I agree with the +CHA sentiment, at least in regards to fear and intimidation; in fact, you could be justified in giving them Intimidate as a class skill, and maybe even giving them some sort of racial bonus to it (maybe +4, or would that be too much?).
Grizzled Gryphon

11-19-07, 08:46 PM
If you read the Jurassic Park books (not recommended, by the way), it is chock full of what sceitists believe to be highly possible. This in no way makes it truth, but it is the best we have. The complicated sound chamber of the Raptor is real, though. The most probable result of having this chamber is pack hunting akin to what wolves do. The sound made with this chamber probably could be made to be rather loud (like a wolf howl), and heard over long distances. So the pack could range out, locate prey, and get the rest of the pack to converge on it with various sounds, like a pack of wolves hunting.

For a huge variety of reasons, they was very little chance that they would have developed intelligence like us.

Also, they should have the +4 to Cha, as that isn't an indication of being charming or good looking. That is merely force of presence, and this guy would have plenty of that!!

I have a vision of one of these guys leaping out of the bushs, foot claws and a pair of Diablo II-esque claw weapons on its hands flashing in for the kill, in Studded Leather armor, complete with gear...
baby_kamikaize_kobold

11-19-07, 09:18 PM
That sounds pretty darn hardcore. I don't even think it would need the katars to look cool.
Grizzled Gryphon

11-19-07, 09:26 PM
I was thinking of the three claw weapon as apposed to the Katar, but that works, too. I don't know, the idea that something like this is leaping out of the bushes at you, AND it is using armor and weapons? To make matters even MORE scary for your average civilized person, have one standing in the background reading a scroll, or something. (Wouldn't this critter make an awe inspiring Sorcerer? Assuming we give it the +4 to cha, anyway. I think it would help deal with the loss of caster levels due to racial hit die and LA.)

Here is another interesting idea. A Raptor Warlock with the Fiendish heritage feats. Now you have one with glowing red eyes and Eldritch energy wrapped around its hands. I like!!

Here is an after-thought: If you gave one of these (or any scaled critter) the Draconic Template, could you tell by looking?:confused:

well, lets compare those two...i think i can get away with it and hide from teh board peoples.

anthro raptor: +8str, +4dex, +8con, +2wis, +4cha, 60ft move, +3 nat. armor, pounce, scent, etc. +3 LA
anthro leopard: +6str, +8dex, +4con, +4wis, 30ft move, +1 nat. armor, improved garb, pounce, scent etc. +2 LA
anthro tiger: =+4str, +6dex, +2con, +4wis, 30ft move, +3 nat. armor, improved grab, pounce, scent etc. +1 LA

i think it's right on, but i'll run it through Yabba's FP system if i get time.

Don't forget the massive skillbonuses both the raptor and leopard receives, and shouldn't raptor wisdom be +4?

correct for the top part, since i tried to make that one as close to a RAW one as i could, and will change wisdom after this post. i think i will give it to the modified one too, i gotta crunch the numbers first thought. also, while the template does give all the skill bonuses, i think they need to be lowered, at least to fit the new form. most of each bonus comes from the way the base creatue moved, and where it's PoV is. an anthro version would move completely different and be seeing on a humanoid level, but with darkvision. i know, reality has no bearing here, but those bonuses are REDICULOUS. i may add some +2 bonuses in there, but i need to think about which ones.
