any good rules for ecl determination? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I would suggest posting the ideas here for comment instead; you'll get high and low estimates, but somewhere around the middle is usually right.

YabatheWhat has a point thing. But merely guidelines at best.

Your best method really is to compare to other races with the target ECL.

11-08-07, 11:04 AM It has tables for LA costs of different things and then you compare them with a standard race with class the other race is best suited for and adjust LA until neither is better than the other and you have your ideal LA then.

11-09-07, 01:29 PM would ecl change if technology and opportunities change?

for example a creature that can fly is usually fairly high ecl, but if the character could have a jetpack or the magical equivelent at 2nd or 3rd level?

also would strength have to be doubled to compensate once firearms become common. It actually seems rather weak aafter that point?

11-10-07, 12:50 PM not sure of the AFB term, but once semi-automatic weapons get invented, I'd imagine that using burst and double taps as well as higher payloads, and the ability to use prone as an advantage in combat, I'd rather have a gun ;)

however, that's really odd. a composite long bow has better range then all but the barrett big 50 in modern d20.
