Hey guys. I was wanting to play an orc for a campaign of ECL 8 though i cant find an interesting or unique core class to use. So i was wondering is there are any kinds of orcs with abnormal power like maybe it has a fire subtype? Or can curse foes (like Hexblade)? If so can I get its name and a general direction of where to look for it? Thanks.

there's water orcs in unearthed arcana /srd. Otherwise, you need to use templates or campaign-specific material (iirc, faerun has more diverse types of orcs). But, really, random racial abilities wont help you have a good class, imo.

Thanks for the help. I know just an orc with a la and some HD isnt very effective but that was why i was hoping for it to be low ecl so i can add a class that could boost or do something positive with the abilities.

There's ogrillan and Orogs, both converted to 3x in The Tome of Horrors by Necromancer Games:

http://http://www.enworld.org/cc/converted/humanoid/ogrillon.htm (http://www.enworld.org/cc/converted/humanoid/ogrillon.htm)

http://www.enworld.org/cc/converted/humanoid/orog.htm

Using Soldarin's ECL http://personal.nbnet.nb.ca/shadows/Handbook/ECLcalc.html Calculator I got LA/ECL of these

• Orog, medium humanoid [orc] (From The Tome of Horrors, Male orc + Female ogre hybrid)

+6 str, +4 con, -2 wis, -2 cha

Darkvision 60 ft, Orc-blood

3d8 racial HD: 2+int mod x6 skill points (Climb, Jump, Listen, Spot). Base Attack +2, Base Fort +3 Ref +1, Will +1, and 2 Feats. Proficient with simple weapons, Heavy armor, and any weapons in their description.

Favored Class: Fighter. LA +2, ECL 5

• Ogrillan, medium humanoid [orc] (From The Tome of Horrors, Male ogre + Female orc hybrid)

+8 str, +4 con, -4 int, -2 wis, -2 cha

Darkvision 60 ft, Orc-blood, Giant-blood

+4 natural armor

2d8 racial HD: 2+int mod x5 skill points (climb, listen, spot). Base Attack +1, Base Fort +3.

1st HD feat is Improved Unarmed Strike. [personal rule] Ogrillans may take Hulking Brute (DLCS) as a 1st level feat (iirc same as Powerful Build)

Reinforced Fists: Ogrillans deal normal damage rather than subduel damage

Favored Class: Barbarian. LA +3, ECL 5

The WOTC version of Orogs is in Races of Faerun & a quite a bit different.

They are Underdark Orcs instead of a hybrid. They'd sound perfect for what you're looking for they actually get a POSITIVE Charisma bonus which would make them great Hexblades

Rough Summary of abilities:
+6 Str -2 Dex -2 Wis +2 Cha
Fire and Cold Resistance 5
+2 Craft (Armorsmithing) and +2 Craft(Weaponsmithing)
Light Blindness
Dark Vision 120 ft.
Proficiency with Greatsword and Throwing Axe.

To give you an idea. They do have a rough ECL though. +2 or +3 I think

I don't remember the specifics of the template, but isn't there a dragonborn template that gives -2 Dex/+2 Con, and switches some racial abilities (of which orcs have very few) around. This is LA +0, IIFC.

If you put this on a water orc, you'd end up with something like: +4 Str, -2 Dex, +4 Con, -2 Int, -2 Wis, -2 Cha.

There are also the gray orcs from Faerun, a +1 LA race. I've always found them enjoyable.

+2 str/wis, -2 int/cha
40' base spd
scent
light sensitive
greataxe/longbow prof
FC: cleric

Here's a link to the WotC excerpt from Races of Faerun that details them:

If your looking for orce with statistics a little more interesting and exotic than the MM entry, in my homebrewn campaign setting orcs are very different and somewhat unique i think and you could try it out with the DM's Permission.
+2 Str
-2 Int, Cha
Med
30ft land speed
-2 vs. all mind effecting effects except fear.
+4 vs. fear
gains the diehard feat even if he does not meet the prequesites
always proficient with shortspears, spears, and longspears
darkvision to 80ft

Actually the sharakim are cursed humans who look like orcs... they actually despise orcs and get an attack bonus against them.
Not really important, just thought I'd mention it.

If orogs were a hybrid, but are no longer, then would ogrillan be the actual hybrid (orc/ogre, regardless of genders), or would they be a non-hybrid orc?

remember if you're going with ECL 8 ... you only have 3 lvls to do something with. 2 HD + 3 LA -8 lvls = 3 more lvls.

... giving you 5 HD to everyone else's 8 (if they're LA +0). With a +8 str though ...

check the ToH entry or 1e Fiend Folio for Ogrillan society/culture. IIRC lots of fist smashing style of fighting and head-butting. With normal dmg fists they're considered 'armed'.

How bout adding a template to a regular orc?

Like a draconic orc.

That would be COOL.

cool? ... oooh everyone should try to get as many ECLs as possible ...

so that ogrillan could be a half-dragon ogrillan using up those last 3 HD.

sure you'd only have 2 HD ... but you'd be really really strong :)

you'd guys be the wussiest heroes (or anti-) ever!

Heh. It was actually raised to ECL 10 and thought of an even better way to make a really strong orc which has a lower ecl and reduces penalties. Add Lolth touched and half-dragon. My guy has a monstrous 37 str (18 starting, +1 bonus, +4 orc, +6 Lolth touched and +8 half-dragon) and can hit 34s on average as a 6th level fighter. Though Ogrillon is my second choice if this guy doesnt work out.
