| valnar09-24-07, 01:42 PM | I was wondering if there is any race with favored class monk. LA 0 would be the best, also I kind of want a small character too. |
| Malchius09-24-07, 01:44 PM | Buomman, Planar's handbook, but not small size. No LA as far as I remember. |
| Ecalsneerg09-24-07, 01:48 PM | Small monks really aren't particularly good. The damage downgrade hurts them quite a lot at low levels. |
| valnar09-24-07, 02:15 PM | I'm making a monk/Rogue with the ascetic rogue feat so my damage will be down but I will get tons of sneak attack dice, also the party is going to be a street gang of little people. |
| Malchius09-24-07, 02:18 PM | why do you need favoured calss monk? couldn't you be a halfling(they have rogue don't they?) |
| valnar09-24-07, 02:21 PM | I was also thinking of taking a level in ranger and taking the ascetic hunter feat so my stuning Dc would go up by 2 (rogue) and my favored enmy bonus adds to the dc. |
| j3st3r09-24-07, 02:26 PM | Uldra is a small fey that gets +2 to wisdom (among others) so that might be quite good choice to be a small monk. It has +1 LA. I'd also advice to take larger race than small to your monk. Now half-ogre would make a devastating monk (large, no WIS penalties, +2 LA), or warforged with battlefist (damage as large monk, no LA). |
| foxtail09-24-07, 02:32 PM | Water mephlings from the Planar Handbook fit the bill at +1 LA; they're small, too. |
| valnar09-24-07, 03:09 PM | anything with a plus to dex and wis? |
| Legdiwena09-24-07, 03:13 PM | I know it's LA +2, but CG Drow Monk. |
| Fatalis_90209-24-07, 03:22 PM | I know it's LA +2, but CG Drow Monk. I'd kill that on sight. |
| Malchius09-24-07, 03:28 PM | Monks are Lawful aren't they? |
| Legdiwena09-24-07, 03:32 PM | Chaos Monk variant allows you to be chaotic I was thinking about making a CG Drow Chaos Monk/Favored Soul of Eilistraee Fights with a bastard sword |
| Scizerus09-24-07, 03:32 PM | I know it's LA +2, but CG Drow Monk. Chaotic Monk eh? what sup. is that in? |
| Ovistavin09-24-07, 03:38 PM | anything with a plus to dex and wis? Githzerai: LA +2 and favored class is Monk. |
| Legdiwena09-24-07, 03:39 PM | It's from Dragon magazine, Sep 2005 Issue I think, forgot number. |
| ShadowF09-24-07, 04:58 PM | Zenthri, Monk is Favored. Choand, The first class selected is considered favored. |
| ShadowF09-24-07, 05:03 PM | Zenythri +1 LA MM2 cast True Strike 1/day Dark Vision 60 +2 DEX, STR and WIS, -2 CHA +2 Tumble and Survival +5 resist Fire, Electric, Sonic Chaond +1 LA MM2 cast Shatter 1/day Dark Vision 60 +4 DEX +2 CON, -2 CHA +2 Escape Artist and Balance +5 resist Cold, Acid, Sonic |
| ToastedAmphibian09-24-07, 07:31 PM | Chaos Monk variant allows you to be chaotic I was thinking about making a CG Drow Chaos Monk/Favored Soul of Eilistraee Fights with a bastard sword You, sir, must be euthanised for the good of society. | Legdiwena09-25-07, 04:01 PM | Where are those 2 races from? |
| valnar09-25-07, 04:42 PM | thanks guys but I will just make a small race up. I thought there might already be one out there. |
| The_Shaman09-25-07, 04:49 PM | I think there was some froglike race in Monsters of Faerun that had monk as a favored class... Not sure of the name, though. |
| olala8809-29-07, 09:41 PM | Why just be a Human? Favored class any. That includes monk.. |
| ShadowF09-30-07, 04:46 AM | Where are those 2 races from? If your asking me then Monster Manual 2. If not then who are you asking? |
| ShadowF09-30-07, 04:58 AM | Nycter 3d8 HD, LA +2 MM3 Base attack +3 Saves F +1, R and W +3 SP 6*(2 + INT mod) Skills: Craft, Survival, and Perception Dark Vision 60ft -2 STR and CHA, +4 DEX, +2 WIS Two Feats Blind Sense 60ft Small Base Land Speed 20ft Fly Speed 40ft |
| Morka10-01-07, 10:29 AM | I was also thinking of taking a level in ranger and taking the ascetic hunter feat so my stuning Dc would go up by 2 (rogue) and my favored enmy bonus adds to the dc. Ascetic Rogue... Ascetic Hunter... :whatsthis Ok, so basically, you sacrifice 2 precious monk levels for two situational bonuses on your stunning fist (+2 on sneak attack, +1 vs favored enemy), and some situational sneak attack... I mean, all this is wasted if for some reason you're unable to sneak attack your foe, and against anything but your favored enemy. A rogue/monk sounds not so bad. If you're able to surprise your foe, you can stun it, and keeps on sneak attacking as long as he's stunned; and you "waste" only 1 monk level. Though I'm afraid that adding Ranger to the mix causes more ill than good: Favored Enemy & +1 stun DC vs this one  Track as a bonus feat (:thinks: not that good, since you won't be able to maximize Survival), vs multi-class headache, loosing 1 monk level to your speed, AC, and various special abilities, and the need to waste one feat on Ascetic Hunter :thumbsdow . You could be an halfling or goblin, taking only 1 rogue level, then advancing monk and ranger at the same rate. You would be an average ranger and average monk, but that would fit your concept. And I'm optimistic when I say "average"... |
| The_Shaman10-01-07, 02:31 PM | Ascetic rogue and hunter are imo not that bad, though. Ok, in both you lose progression of the AC bonus (+4, eventually), flurry and monk speed. What you gain, however, isn't that bad. Rogues get a way to add some extra damage, and when everyone and their pet kitten are going around with +3 hyperflaming weapons of holy s..t-burst, that helps. Getting into flanking positions requires some planning, but tumble is a class skill for monks and rogues. Oh, and you finally get some skill points. Yay. 4 levels means uncanny dodge, and when much of your bonus to AC is denied when you are flat-footed, you want that. Yes, you do. Ascetic hunter means a ranger-monk. Weird, I know. OTOH, having full attack bonus is not half bad for a monk. Bonus feats, such as the TWF feat tree, aren't bad either - and afaik you can dual-wield your unarmed strike, so you get something no worse than your flurry (when you include your higher BAB). As everything with the ranger, it gets much sweeter if you face your FEs, but you're not harmless even when you don't. My point is, those feats imply that ranger and rogue aren't just 1-level dips. They are viable options and a ranger 16/monk 4 can be a very useful character. I suppose it's also that I don't consider monk levels all that precious - and frankly, there are quite a few PrCs/multiclass builds that are much better in most cases. YMMV. |
| posternutbag10-01-07, 03:12 PM | Actually, a Monk/Ranger/Sacred Fist is an excellent unarmed combat build. You could take the Trapfinding Ranger variant from Dungeonscape. You loose out on some SA dice, but yor BAB improves tremendously, potentially +19 with a Monk4/Ranger6/SF10. |
