applying templates (becoming a lich) [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-18-07, 01:58 AM im currently playing a wizard cleric true necromancer, and i am planning on becoming a lich, the only problem is i dont really know how you figure the new ecl into a preexisting char, lets say im level 16 for simplicity sake, boom i make myself a lich, with the +4 La my ecl becomes 20. so here is where to confusion sets in for me, my ecl is now 20, while the rest of my group is 16 still, do collect less exp as a whole, and have to collect enough exp to level up to 21 before i can level again? now my concern with this is that my progression to 21 would be slower then my allies, due to the reduced exp for CR below my ECL. what im hoping to clear up is this correct?

05-18-07, 02:19 AM secondly would i get the advantage of my own corpse crafter feats, since in a sense i created myself.

05-18-07, 04:41 AM You might convince the DM to let you trade in four of your character levels to level out your level adjustment. Other than that you need enough Exp of a 21st level character to gain another level.

Also you should gain the benefit of those Corpse Crafter feats.

05-19-07, 02:17 AM thanks for the replies, gah im gonna have a hard time with this, but i commited myself to this and im gonna stick too it, maybe i could talk my dm into letting my necro leave the party for a while while he goes out and works on becoming a lich and just join our part 4 levels later, gah decisions decisions

You would not gain a level adjustment from the Dread Necromancer class as you slowly gain abilities of a lich over the whole class. By the time you reach 20th the you already have most of the lich abilities that cause the adjustment, so it does not apply.

I don't know much about Walker in the Waste, but it most likely works in the same way.
