| celestialkin04-01-07, 07:52 PM | Hey guys. The wikipedia article on liches talks about a good lich known as an Archlich, but it doesn't say if it still exists in current edition of D&D, or where I can find it if it does. Can you guys please tell me a bit more about these things, and if it's still possible to play one in 3.5? The wikipedia article on liches also mentioned something known as a Psilich, which achieves lichdom through Psionics instead of magic. Can you guys please tell me what book I can find these things in, and if it's possible to play a good aligned one? Thanks in advance. |

With the magic/psionic transparency I guess a psi-lich is possible. Especially that magic Item compendium says that Craft Wondrous Item and Craft Universal Item are basically interchangeable. |
| Alac Luin04-01-07, 08:49 PM | THe 3.0 mention of Archliches is in "Monsters of Faerun", in the very back (pg 90). I do also like the idea of deathless, but be careful, don't call it a deathless, some players get all bent out of shape by the mention of the word. :) |

They seem cool, but I've never seen the stats. Why the hatred? |
| Climhazzard04-01-07, 09:10 PM | Yes, there are Archlicches in 3.5 Edition. They are in Libris Mortis. Why? They seem cool, but I've never seen the stats. Why the hatred? /begin rant Because they are another entirely new creature type for something that already exists in the rules: good aligned undead. Want good aligned undead? Simple, you have ghosts with alignment: any and good liches as mentioned above. Oh, you think negative energy is evil, and no good aligned creature would be powered by it? Hey, some people are undead for reasons beyond they're control, are undead because it's a minor evil for a greater good (at least in their mind), and show me proff that any negative energy using spell is automatically evil. Finally, if you really don't want good creatures with the undead type or spirits, use Fey (Incorporeal). It's consistent with previous rules and fits the flavor, compared to deathless. /end rant |
| Alac Luin04-01-07, 09:12 PM | Why? They seem cool, but I've never seen the stats. Why the hatred? It is all centered on the whole positive/negative energy and Good/Evil lines. It's been discussed to death on the boards, the dislike gets in the way of a decent creature "type". For the OP, I just realized this is in the Races forum. Are you intending on using this as a PC? Then there are no templates that exist for the two things you asked about. It gets down to ask your DM, and consider looking in "Liber Mortis" for guidelines. (unless someone has already made something up;) ) |
| Nexis04-01-07, 09:21 PM | Psi-liches are found in Hyperconscious, a 3rd party Psionic supplement. Still a great read though. For something not so Psionic-X (Untapped Potential), try the Mindborn (http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:4LBHUKhOTHoJ:boards1.wiza rds.com/showthread.php%3Fp%3D5093370+mindborn&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2&gl=us), which I had to use a cached page since the old one was purged... :( The Mindborn can also be found in the book Untapped Potential, another great 3rd party Psi supplement. |
