I have a game coming up this Saturday and the races that my players are picking are unusual. So far I have a pixie rogue and a centaur ranger. The player of the ranger brought up an interesting question. How is armor handling for centaurs? Do they wear normal armor or barding? Should it cost extra since it has to be specially made?

Centaurs wear barding, which costs 4 times as much as the base cost of normal armour(before adding masterwork, enchantment costs).:)

I dont know.. i would argue it depends on the armor type.

50% of the armor is over the humanoid torso (and 100% in some cases, such as a chain shirt)

Its just one of those wierd things you'll have to decide at the time.

I've always wanted to play a Centaur :(

Centaurs wear barding, which costs more.

In my opinion, centaur armor would be considered some form of cross between regular armor and barding. Half of the armor is barding and the other half is for the torso. Runestar is correct that the armor would cost more for a centaur character than a human character.

Question: Why does this matter?

Barding is just a fancy name for animal armor.

Barding for a large animal costs four times as much as normal and has twice the weight
Armor for a large non-humanoid (Centaur falls under this category) is four times the cost and twice the weight.

There is no difference at all.

BTW Needle. Centaurs are really fun to play. Especially when they drink lots of wine.

Is the Centaur Named Timithy Eyesbright lol Dont know if you will get that one. It is the Name of the Centaur Ranger in the AD&D comic form the 80-early 90s.

it really doesn't matter if the have a humanoid torso. you just buy barding. the books don't get specific enough between horse barding, centaur barding, or tauric human/centipede barding.

as the DM you can change this if you really care.
