Hi!

I was reading up on different templates and this article (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20060801a) says that if you apply a template you gain the original type as an augumented subtype.

For example: Add the Symbiotic template (from SS) to a human and he would become an Aberration (Augumented Humanoid).

Now, does the Augumented humanoid subtype have any effect other than showing that he once was a humanoid?

Or is he still classed as a humanoid in ways? For example, would I still be able to tack on a Feral template (also SS) that only applies to humanoids and monstrous humanoids? I don't think so myself, but at least it's good to ask about it.

On another note...

If my character has the aberration type and has the rapidstrike feats (draconomicon).. and later changes type.. say.. outsider. Would he still be able to use the rapidstrike feats?

Thanks in advance!

Thaumaturgist,

In some cases there are special rules for augmented types. For example, an awakened animal is a "magical beast (augmented animal)" but still uses the hit dice type, skill points, etc. of an animal. This is useful to see so that you don't get confused as to why its hit dice say d8s instead of d10s, etc. It is still a magical beast for every other consideration. Without that reminder, I'd be likely to look at the stats, assume that someone make a mistake, and start adjusting hit dice, BAB, skill points, etc.

In your case, I'd also say no to another template which couldn't be applied to the creatures new type. It is the new type.
