| Rahvan01-09-08, 04:19 PM | Okay, this is my first try at something like this, so please be kind in your replies. I appreciate any comment that I receive, even if they are negative, but if you have the time, then please give constructive criticism. Any comments that I make will be underlined. Avanti Avanti almost never appear in human lands, nor with any of the other common races. When their groves and settlements are threatened however they will show the fierceness of dragons that they have inherited. Personality: Avanti are uncaring of the other races, finding them fickle and abusive of what they value higher then most. When they make friends with others however they often show a fierce loyalty towards them, going into battle whenever that is called for. They value nature above civilization and would sooner spend the night in a tree then with their companions in an inn. Avanti are playful and love to frolic around with creatures that they have calmed and spoken too, sometimes being busy hours on end with a game of hide and seek from a wolf. They are very self-preserved though, keeping their pasts and lives for themselves and fellow Avanti. When one tells someone his past that person should know that he is given a great honor. Physical Description: Avanti are short and delicate, their bodies almost never reaching above the 3 feet mark. Their weights often are measured between the 30 lbs and 40 lbs, though some travelers have told that they have spotted larger Avanti on their travels. Avanti have hair ranging in color from the golden yellow of the sun, to the darkest black of the night. Their skins though are usually a light green color, due to their excessive interaction with the natural world around them. There have been Avanti that had skin colors ranging from muddy brown to dusty yellow. Each Avanti sports wings that appear much like those of a butterfly, though the colorings of the wings can vary widely from one Avanti to the next. Relations: Avanti do not often communicate with members of the common races, but they have been known to keep watch over the groves that druids and animals alike protect, indicating that they are naturally drawn towards the practitioners of Druidic magic. Alignment: The playful nature of the Avanti makes it hard for them to be serious about anything, so they lean more towards Chaos then law, and their neutral outlook on the rest of the races makes them more inclined to be neutral then either good or evil. Avanti Lands: Avanti lands lay amongst some of the oldest and deepest forests. They are not generally found outside of their natural environment, so little is known of how the Avanti live. Religion: Avanti do not practice religion like other races do, they do not particularly care for the deities and gods that the humans, elves, and dwarves worship. They do however pay moderate respect to Obad-Hai. There are exceptions known that Avanti worship deities. Language: Avanti speak in soft, hushed tones when they speak at all, but as a young Avanti grows up he is usually thought the languages of the closest settlement, mostly Common or Elven. Names: An Avanti receives a name at birth, usually based on how her appearance was when she first saw the light of day. When an Avanti reaches adulthood she selects a name of her own liking, one that suits her current outlook on life and those that live around her. Avanti names can be used for both genders. Avanti do not have surnames, but any single Avanti can choose multiple names or surnames. Names:Stormwing, starsong, moondancer, wingblade. Adventures: Avanti take up adventuring as part of becoming an adult, since only when they have spend ten years outside of the protected enclave in which they grew up they can truly call themselves an adult, many Avanti stick to the wandering life though, for the thrill that meeting new people and new creatures bring with it. It is not uncommon for an Avanti youth to leave the enclave before he is considered an adult, but most Avanti do not care for it either, since they know that experience will teach their children best. Avanti Racial Traits: Fey (Dragonblood): Avanti are fey with the dragonblood subtype -4 Strength, +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence, -2 Charisma. Avanti are graceful, swift and cunning, but they lack the brute power that other races possess, and their social skills are to be doubted at best. Small Size: As small creatures Avanti have a +1 size bonus on armor class, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a +4 size bonus on hide checks, and a -4 size penalty on grapple checks. Low-light vision: An Avanti can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. They retain the ability to distinguish color and detail under such conditions. Flight: Avanti have gossamer wings, but Avanti do not have the power to use these to fly when they are still young, they do however give a +10 racial bonus on jump checks. At 3rd level an Avanti learn to use her wings to fly for short times at an end. She may now fly at a speed of 20 feet, with average maneuverability. She can fly for a number of rounds equal to 3 + constitution modifier per time, up to a total of 3 + constitution modifier minutes per day . At 6th level an Avanti learns to use her wings as they where meant to be, flying costs her about the same exertion as walking does when she reaches this level. Her maneuverability changes to good. Avanti flight follows the normal rules of flying, meaning that an Avanti can only fly when wearing light or no armor, and she cannot be carrying more then a light load at the time. +2 on spot and listen checks: Avanti spend most of their lives in the forest around their homes, giving them more then enough time to hone the arts of detection. +2 on handle animal checks and ride checks: Avanti deal with animals of all types, and often have one or two favored companions which they can employ as mounts when they have to travel far. -2 on intimidate check: Avanti appear too small and delicate to make good on any threats that they make, and any attempt too look angry is more often considered cute by the common races. Spell-like abilities: An Avanti can use Detect poison 3/Day, she casts the spell at caster level 1. In addition an Avanti with a charisma score of 11 or higher can use Calm animals, Faerie fire, and speak with animals each 2/day. Avanti Telepathy: An Avanti can communicate with any other Avanti within a hundred feet, though maintaining multiple conversations at once forces an Avanti to use this ability as a full-round action, single conversations are only a free action. Avanti Telepathy is only available to the Avanti, it cannot be learned by any other creature. Languages: Automatic languages: An Avanti knows how to speak common and Avanti Telepathy Bonus Languages: Any, an Avanti usually learns the languages of whatever creature lives closest to the enclave from which he came. Favored class: Any An Avanti society has to fill out all roles by themselves, so an Avanti’s highest class level does not count against him determining multi-classing penalties. Random Height and Weight Race...........Base Height......Height Modifier...Base Weight...Weight Modifier Avanti, Male...... 2’6”.................2D6............. 30 lb.............. x 1 lb. Random Starting Age Race....Adulthood......simple....Average .....Difficult Avanti...16 years.......+2D6......+4D6.........+6D6 I was thinking about giving them an LA of +1, but they gain their flying, their most important ability in my eyes, at a later level, which sets them at LA+1 I think. I have created several feats for them too, but I think that the Dragonborn Avanti feat is a bit powerful. Avanti Airscout: Your wings are stronger then those of the rest of your kind. Prerequisites: Avanti, 3rd level Benefit: Your fly speed increases with 20 feet. In addition you gain an additional +2 bonus on spot checks. Avanti Dragonscout Your flight is advanced beyond that of many of your kin. Prerequisites: Avanti Airscout, Dragonborn Avanti, 6th level Benefit: As a full-round action you can move up to twice you fly speed. At anytime during your movement you may use your breath weapon as a free action. In addition the save DC of your breath weapon increases with 1, this increase stacks with any other increase that your breath may gain through the use of other feats. Dragonborn Avanti: You have been granted a glimpse of the power that you dragon ancestors left for your people. Prerequisites: Avanti, 1st level Benefit: You gain a breath attack, you breath attack deals 1D6 +1D6/2HD damage. This damage is either fire, lightning, cold, or acid, you must choose your type when you first choose this feat, you cannot change it afterwards. You can use your breath weapon every 1D4 turns. Fire: 30 foot cone. Targets can attempt a reflex save for half damage. The save DC against a fire breath is 11 + 1/2 your hit die + constitution modifier A fire breath deals +1 damage per die. Lightning: 60 foot line. Targets can make a reflex save for half damage. The save DC against a lightning breath is 13 + 1/2 your hit die + Con modifier. A lightning breath’s DC is 2 higher as normal. (Calculated above) Cold: 30 foot cone. Targets can attempt a fortitude save for half damage. The save DC is 11 + 1/2 your hit die + constitution modifier. A cold breath deals +1 damage per die. Acid: 60 foot line. Targets can attempt a reflex save for half damage. The save DC is 11+ 1/2 your hit die + constitution modifier. An acid breath deals -1 damage per die. Special: This feat can only be taken at first level Okay, that was it for now, please make sure that your comments are thought over before posting them. |
| UAMDB01-09-08, 04:29 PM | Well the name is already being used for a race in Stormwreck. It is basicly an aquatic human. As for the feat: Why does the type of attack (fire, frost, acid) affect the amount of damage? Why does acid do less damage than Fire? Why is the DC for lighting higher than the others? |
| Rahvan01-09-08, 04:52 PM | I have based the part of different damages for energies off of the Psionic versions of powers, there the energies have different effects depending on what kind you choose to manifest, though I substituted Acid for sonic, since sonic is not one of the breath weapons of the true dragons. And I do not own Stormwreck, so I had no idea that there was already a race named like this, though I doubt that that will make much of a difference in the end. Unless you of course are referring to the telepathy that they have, seeing as they could technically communicate with those humans. (Had it not been in another language, which is specifically stated that none other then they can learn) |
