Sorry not sure. Its amassing how many people act like spiders and dragons have the same inteligence, no stategy at all. For those of us who use it intalligence is an important part of there stats block. Sorry I can't be more helpful, you might wanna look at the anthromorphic animals from Savage species.

Awakened animals do not have an LA, they have racial HD which act similar.

I guess that would depend on the animal.

Rule of thumb:

LA+0 base.
Add 1 if large
Add 1 if abilities add up to over +2
Add 1 if natural armor is over +1
Reduce LA in 1 if the animal has no hands or other way to manipulate stuff or use weapons (but not to under LA+0)
If LA is +1 or better, do not increase it for stuff like scent, natural attacks, pounce and similar advantages. It is not worth that much. But if LA is 0 scent and/or pounce might raise it to +1
Apply an acid test.

Couple examples:

Wolf. 2HD+2HD from awaken. Medium (+0). Abilities Str+2, Dex+4, Con+4, Wis+2, Cha-2 (+1). +2 natural armor (+1). No hands (-1). Total +1, so I think scent and trip attack should go for free. Total LA+1. ECL 5. Might be good as a barbarian, fighter, ranger or scout.

Dire Ape. 5HD+2HD from awaken. Large (+1). Abilities Str+12, Dex+4, Con+4, Wis+2, Cha-2 (+1). Natural armor +4 (+1). Has hands. Total +3, so I think scent, rend and the skill bonus should go for free. Total LA+3, you might want to acid test this one, the bonus aren't so far from an ogre and ogres are LA+2. ECL 10. This is so high that probably spellcasting is a no-no. Almost anything else looks good.

Hmm, funny. I asked this same question just last week in regaurd to an awakened leopard.... Lets see how yor LA system works for that...
Medium creature, 3hd+2hd abilites... over +2 (+16) +1 LA No hands -1 LA +1 NA Improved Grab, Pounce, Rake (+1?) +8 jump, balance, climb, +4 hide(+8 in tall grass) +4 Move silently, Climb speed of 20ft scent...

This makes it a +0 or +1 LA by your system. Does this seem right to everyone? Everyone else was saying it should be a +2 LA atleast, and that it should probably be higher.

also, don forget that awaken adds 1d3 charisma, so a -2 charisma isnt really a penalty, and +0 is actually an ability BONUS for an awakened animal.

Actually I was already taking that in consideration (assuming 1d3=2). Both wolf and dire ape have a -4 to cha.

Thanks for the help.

I have one more question, the awakened animal becomes a Magical Beast (Augmented Animal), this means that it gets d10 hd, good ba, good saves and all other traits of magical beasts, right?

Ok, click that link and it will show you teh traits and features of magical beasts. A "Magical Beast (Augmented Animal)" which and awakened animal is, has the FEATURES of an animal but the TRAITS of a Magical Beast. So the only things that seems to change are;
1. can have greater than 2 int
2. gets darkvision 60ft, still keeps lowlight vision though
3. the whole "Non combative herbivorse" thing no longer applies, so an awakened horse, for example, no longer uses its natural weapons as secondary attacks, and can thus apply its full strength to its kicks.
