Is it appropriate to use animals as PC's if the animal has been affected by the "Awaken" spell?

If so, they become magical beasts with HD = to the orignal animals +2. so does this mean that;
You reroll all their hd as d10
they gain dark vision
have bab=total hitdice
might increase in size (3hd Hienea=medium 5hd Hienea=large)
skills from the +2 hd gained through awaken use the new int
they get to add +1 to and ability due to lvl gain
they might get another feat

Should you requier lvl adjustments in most cases, or do the HD and lack of hands/odd shape tend to balance it out?

I'm not solidly sure on most of it. But I'm pretty sure you don't recalculate hit points as D10s, they don't gain dark vision, I don't think they will increase in size either.

I'm sure they get more skill points, feats, and ability increases. I'm not sure whose rate of skill point increases they get for the skill points though.

Ok, awaken animal says it gives the "Augmented Animal" subtype, and the d20 definition of the augmented subtype says they tend to have the traits of the new type, but the features of the old type. Does this hold true in this case?if so then;
hd=d8
BAB=3/4
get Darkvision

And i think an animal that increases in size with HD will still increase in size.

Now that I think about it. You might want to ask on the Monsters Forum. They should have the answer your looking for.
