Best druid race [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-06-07, 05:25 PM This problem is relatively simple, i am starting to play again and want to know what race will allow me to get the best out of my druid. Any race will do, I just need one that will compliment the needed stats of the class well.

05-06-07, 05:39 PM Well, once you hit 5th level, you can wild shape. This means that your Str and Dex will become that of your form. Int and Cha aren't that important for a druid, so basically, don't pick anything with a Wis or Con penalty.

Dwarves are decent, in that many of their penalties disapear once they wild shape. I would avoid elves. The Dex bonus is lost during wild shape, and the Con penalty remains. Half orcs are decent for the first few levels (Int and Cha penalties are no real problem), but the Str bonus is nice during those low levels.

As others have said, human is nice. No penalties, and a bonus feat!

True, but races with druid as a favored class are especially suited to be druids because of their abilities or background with nature.

Two words: Arcane Hieromancer.

In it's most brutal application, Wiz 1 (Precocious Adept)/Druid 5, then on to AH. (Or D 3/W 3/MT 2/AH, or D 3/S 4/AH, or ...)

Continue with your Wildshape progression. Your Animal Companion gets familiar feats and progresses. You retain you Druid BaB and Skill pts.

Downside? 1 (or more) level dip away from Druid, and D6 instead of D8.

As for race, I kinda like 3.0 Vanara. Go Monkeys!
(+2 WIS and INT, -2 STR (which is irrelevant when using Wild Shape), and some nice climbing abilities)

as far as meleeist i love the shifter. with the shifter racial lvls of course. you dont get wild shape you get a bunch of bonuses to your shifting power Im playing one now and i do min dmg of 30 dmg up to 52 with out criting add in a few lvls of war shaper and you have a killing machine.....lol

05-07-07, 07:53 PM OA Vanara (before the Dragon update, if you can). Bonus to 2 mental scores, penalty to strength. Plus, they get some decent skill bonuses that carry over in your animal forms, and a nice climb speed in your base form, if you don't want to go crazy over wildshaping.
