I am making a warblade and want to know what would be be best race with a LA of at most +3? as I am hoping to pay off the LA by level 20.

I am thinking High Str, Int & Con as well as a Dex of around 16 so i can get a mithral full plate to maximize AC.

Bonus feats, high BAB and natual ac would be nice.

I would like to keep to either medium or large.

A race that is actually playable in a standard good aligned campaign visitng towns etc would also help.

Any Suggestions?

Goliath is good. Wield Large weapons, nice bonus to Str and Con, some other decent bonuses that escape me right now, and all for a +1 LA. Races of Stone is the source, if you were wondering.

If you dont mind being evil, adding the loloth touched template from MM4 gives you +6 strength, +6 con and fearlessness

He asked help for a good aligned campaign :P

Half-Minotaur Goliath.

This one would lose -4 DEX and some Int...

I would say Half-Dragon. Just cry a bit for your DM to add wings.

And LA buy-off would function to a +3 LA first at 9th level, then 12th, and fianlly at 15th, isn't it? I think you cannot start buying LA after the level required.

Yea, but I can still see it working.

Working? It's a net +16 to Strength and a another really nice boost to CON. Also, Large size and Powerful Build.

All of which means ...

... A Diamond Mind-focused Adept with a Huge weapon.

Hello, Nightmare Blades. :)

Your ideas so far:
1. Goliath is good. Wield Large weapons, nice bonus to Str and Con, some other decent bonuses that escape me right now, and all for a +1 LA. Races of Stone is the source, if you were wondering
Not bad but no real outstanding features like extra feats, hd, bab, dr etc.

2. Half-Minotaur Goliath.
I would love to see how my DM treats that PC when it enters a friendly town.
Where is the half-minotaur template?

3. I would say Half-Dragon. Just cry a bit for your DM to add wings.
I was thinking of that idea, what large creature could i add it to with a +0LA to let it have wings (my DM will insist)

Other thoughts I had were: (bad bits in bold)

Centaur +8 Str, +4 Dex, +4 Con, -2 Int, +2 Wis
it also has +2 feats, +2 BAB, +3 AC extra HD

Satyr +0 Str, +2 Dex, +2 Con, +2 Int, +2 Wis +2 Cha
it also has +2 fests, BAB +2, +4 AC extra HD, a headbut (1d6) and DR 5/cold iron

(etiher of these I could add a +1 LA Template to give extra Str, like draconic)

What other templates are there with +1LA, is there any that give a + to int?

Kind of, +3LA is the most you can possilbly pay off before level 20

Once the total of a character's class levels (not including any Hit Dice from his creature type or his level adjustment) reaches three times his level adjustment, his level adjustment is eligible to be decreased by 1.

LA......Levels to Pay off at:
1.................3
2................6,9
3............9, 15, 18
4................12
5................15
6................18

If you don't mind some racial HD, the Thri-Kreen offers some interesting and tempting boosts, especially if you plan on making use of Tiger Claw. +20 on Jump checks? Yes, please! :D

oh crap, I just realised I was not taking in to consideration the racial HD for the above monsters, Goliath or half-dragon look really good now. :)

Wear a hood or something. :p

Seriously, though, it should be an interesting roleplaying experience so long as your DM doesn't secretly hate the idea and want to give you a hard time about it.

Sounds fun. :)

Where is the half-minotaur template?

For the life of me, I can't remember. I always get it from Crystal Keep.

Centaur +8 Str, +4 Dex, +4 Con, -2 Int, +2 Wis
it also has +2 feats, +2 BAB, +3 AC extra HD

Really, -2 int isn't THAT bad. Sure, your Warblade Int Abilities are -1 from normal people, but that's just gravy on top of what'd be a solid class even without them.

half-minotaur is in Dragon magazine #313
1 ton ghost

09-12-07, 05:21 PM
always was partial to low LA
-air genasi (FR) decent Int/Dex buff
-obligatory tiefling for the same

get that Int up. perhaps multi in swashbuckler, you might as well capitalize on relevant stats.

Half-Dragon Orc

+12 to STR IIRC

All you need to do is find a way to negate the whole light sensitivity deal...sundark goggles, feats, etc

On that note, just an Orc would be fine. +4 STR and no LA

Given your ability requests, I'm thinking that the Draconic Template from Draconomicon would look good on whatever race/combo of up to LA +2 you choose. For a base race, hmm... Well, even something like human/elf/dwarf could be tolerable, in which case you could go for half-dragon instead of draconic (that Dragon type isn't too bad either). Bonuses to intelligence tend to be rather rare, at least among the more martially inclined races. Let's see, a half-dragon dwarf gets +8 to strength, +4 con, and + 2 int, which are quite good for a warblade especially once you get rid of the LA. A human half-dragon gets +8 str, + 2 con, int, and cha, and some pretty decent other things. Oh, the breath weapon (more than 1/day with one Dragon magic feat), the natural armor, natural weapons, and the other extras don't hurt, either. It's a pity that medium half-dragons don't get functional wings - you need to pay those with feats, but it's still a good idea imo.

You could try a human with the Jotunbrud feat-- they're treated as large for a number of purposes. A DM might let that go if you explained it well (or maybe used the Raptoran advancement for flight.)

Another alternative would be to go with a half-dragon Raptoran or Dragonborn-- the former would probably be a little more straightforward. A Half-Dragon Raptoran would get Flight at 5th level, his breath weapon every 1d4 rounds at 6th (w/Dragon Breath from Races of the Dragon), and you could also pick up the Dragon Tail feat for an extra attack at 1st level.

x2 damage on a pouncing (with the Tiger Claw strike) dive with a boost that bolsters your damage could be fun.

Obviously, IF you were to play something so horribly, horribly insane, focus on Tiger Claw and Diamond Mind, with a bit of Iron Heart, to set up Avalanche of Blades + Stormguard Warrior => Time Stands Still + Girallion Windmill Flesh Rip ... o.o

Can a half-dragon become a dragonborn?

I still think Orc is the best way to go. You get a +4 to STR without any LA. The downside is that you lose INT, WIS, and CHA...

However, that is why I suggested the Half-dragon Orc. You now have a +12 to STR, and the INT and WIS penalties from being an Orc are cancelled out. Like I said, all you need is a pair of sundark goggles to protect your eyes from sunlight.

If you don't mind taking a hit to your Dexterity, tack on the Amphibuous template for the ability to breath under water without a LA. For flavor consistancy say that you're a half-black dragon.

Problem with the Mutant is Warblade 1 is ECL 6, instead of ECL4. :(

Also, instead of Orc-Orc, I'd suggest either Desert Orc or Water Orc. I forget which, but its LA+0 and better than the Orc-Orc.

Water Orcs
Water orcs exemplify the water traits turned to evil. Though slow to reach decisions, once a water orc chooses a course of action its resolve is harder to shift than a tidal wave.

Racial Traits
Water orcs have the general traits of water races described above and all orc racial traits, with additions and exceptions as noted below.

+4 Strength, +2 Constitution, -2 Intelligence, -2 Wisdom, -2 Charisma: Water orcs are strong and tough, but share the standard race's limited mental capacities.

General Traits Of Water Races
All members of water races share the following traits:

+1 racial bonus on attack rolls against creatures of the fire subtype, including extraplanar creatures from the Elemental Plane of Fire.
-2 penalty on all saving throws against spells, spell-like abilities, and supernatural abilities with the fire subtype or used by creatures of the fire subtype, including extraplanar creatures from the Elemental Plane of Fire.
Natural Swimmers: Members of water races have a swim speed equal to their base land speed. (If the creature already has a swim speed, it improves by 10 feet.) A water creature can move through water at its swim speed without making Swim checks. It has a +8 racial bonus on any Swim check to perform some special action or avoid a hazard. A water creature can always choose to take 10 on a Swim check, even if distracted or endangered. It can use the run action while swimming, provided it swims in a straight line.

Desert Orcs
Desert orcs are martial creatures who live for battle. Prowess in battle is their only measure of social standing, and they don't particularly care if weaker races get hurt when orcs test their skills. In fact, the chief difference between desert orcs and desert goblinoids is that the former never accept defeat—when desert orcs attack, they conquer or die trying.

Desert orcs live in a perpetual state of war, participating in eternal night sorties from their isolated desert canyons and ancient ruined cities to attack settlements and expand their territory. Only the burning sun, and their weakness when in it, keeps them from ruling the desert.

Occasionally an individual orc questions the need for constant battle, or seeks strategies other than brute force. Such iconoclasts often leave their tribes—at least temporarily—to become adventurers.

Racial Traits
Desert orcs have the general desert racial trait described above and all orc racial traits, with additions and exceptions as noted below.

Low-Light Vision: A desert orc can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. She retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.
No darkvision.
Endurance: Desert orcs gain Endurance as a racial bonus feat.

I'm thinking water...
