Thri-Kreen

This is the correct answer to every question involving good races.

Yea...im sorry to upset you but someone has already created a thread involving the same question with alot of player feed back. Please check more carefully before posting a new thread.
It saves yourself the time and effort of putting one up yourself.

I read the entire first page of that thread.

They hadn't yet hit on the correct answer: Anthropomorphic Baleen Whale, from Savage Species.

It's hands down the best Monk race, and is darn good for pretty much any melee character.

I'm sorry, but the answer is clearly the Half-Dragon Tauric Thri-Kreen Giant Octopus.

Actually, no. Thrii-Kreen are good at most things, and a racial +30 on jump checks will help most anything, but they are not the best race for every class. Any class based off Charisma, such as Paladin, Sorcerer, and Favored Soul, Thrii-Kreen are not so hot with.

I would have to go with plain old human. No LA, no drawbacks, extra feat.

Half-orc is pretty nice. One of the few situations where a half-orc outshines the orc.

Any race with the Asthmatic template added.

If you have to go by the Player's handbook, human or dwarf, possibly half-orc. If you are allowed anything without LA or HD, Neraph and Buomman get quite handy, too. LA-endowed options include Githzerai, half-minotaur, draconic, half-dragon, half-ogre, goliath, and a ton of others. Thri-kreen and a few others are when you are allowed both monster races and LA, which some DM are not happy with.

Thri-Kreen

18th level thri-kreen monk (2 monstrous humanoid HD) with Greater Multi-Weapon Fighting, Multiattack and a 10 Str:

Full Attack Unarmed strike +13/+13/+13/+8/+3 with flurry of blows and kama +13/+8/+3 and kama +13/+8/+3 and kama +13/+8/+3 and bite +13

15 attacks per round.

Is there any time when you say "I do a full attack" and the gaming table doesn't let out a collective groan?

Believe me, I would never actually use this build in game, because as you said, I wouldn't want everyone to be able to finish a novella in the time it takes me to resolve a full attack.

Actually, my group has gone so far as to port over many of the changes from Saga to our fortnightly D&D (Planescape) campaign, and one of the changes is no iterative attacks – everyone loves it.

Maybe the best race if you want your DM to bounce a coffee mug off of your forehead.

I was thinking about a race without LA. It sometimes it doesn't pay off.

Half-Orc: +2 Str is good compensation for a Monk's medium BAB and the -2 Int/Cha doesn't matter much to a Monk.

Human and Wood Elf are good too.

I am partial to the half-ogre for my monks. Large size and huge str bonus can help out a bit. As does natural armor.

Half-ogre monks are the best grapplers ever.

If you want LA+0, humans are a good choice. Half-orcs aren't half-bad either, surprisingly enough.

I'd personally go with Githzerai for reasons that probably aren't good enough to count as the "best" but are good enough that it'd probably be better than most others.

I have been working on a Raptoran Monk 11/Stormtalon 9 - think precision bomb.

No bonuses to ability scores but high land and air speed, foot talon attack may be considered tas an unarmed attack... and with Monk's Tattoos can fly about 130ft a round... yeah... did I mention high air speed?

YES! Someone uses the Stormtalon PrC. I think it is great but most people I've played with never even consider it. On topic......in one of my campaigns, one of my players is playing a monk. Kinda complex, but it is so far Catfolk Fighter2/Sorc2/Monk2/Dragon Disciple 7. He enjoys the fact that his lowest save is something like +16(Fort.) and he is really hard to kill. 33 AC, +14 Init., and a Cloak of Minor Displacement are some of his favourite parts. Not very great damage output though, although he does have his unarmed attacks enchanted with wounding......

Get your GM drunk as hell, buy him a lapdance, loan him a PS3 (does't have to be yours :o) and convince him to let you play a Tarrasque Monk.

You'll need really really good alcohol...

Awakened tree.

Yeah, I know it'd have decent Strength, no Constitution, low Dexterity and potentially horrific Wisdom, but ponder this:

Spruce Lee.

Who can resist this character name?

If you're playing in Eberron, Warforged make kick-ass monks. Their composite plating gives a +2 armor bonus, which can be further enchanted, but does not count as armor. The Battlefist (ECS) makes their unarmed attacks count as one size category larger. And with silver and/or cold iron tracery feats (Races of Eberron), you'll bypass DR like crazy. Your wisdom penalty means that you'll have bad DRs on your stunning fists / quivering palms, but it's a relatively small price to pay for your increased offensive/defensive capabilities.

(I like to play monks by dumping strength, taking weapon finesse and maxing dex. Losing a bit of damage is well worth the extra ac, reflex saves and initiative modifiers.)
