| twistdmage04-12-07, 12:25 PM | Just wondering what everyone thought the best race for a Warlock/Blood Magus would be from the Forgotten Realms' available races. |
| RobbyPants04-12-07, 12:51 PM | Well... Human gets you a bonus feat and is versitile (always a plus) Elf gets you a Dex bonus (good for your Eldritch Blast), but takes a Con penalty, which can hurt you Halfling also gets a Dex bonus, but takes a Str penalty (no biggie for a warlock). Their small size also does not affect the damage of your EB, which is good, and being small helps with bonuses to AC and to attack Goblins are good for all the same reasons as halflings, but take a -2 penalty to Cha, which hurts some of your invocations. The tradeoff is a faster speed and darkvision I think these are some good ones. As a general rule, I would strongly recommend against taking any race with a level adjustment greater than zero, as your invocations known, and eldritch blast damage get hurt. Also, if it helps, I'd say your most important stat is Dex, followed by Cha. After that, a good Con score helps for HP. Int and Wis are only marginally useful (for bonus skill points or a better Will save, respectively), and Str is almost completetly a dump stat. So, anything that promotes a good Dex score, and possibly a good Cha score is nice. To offset the bonues look for races that give penalties to Str, or failing that, Int or Wis. I would avoid taking a Con penalty if possible. |
| 3DJutsu04-12-07, 03:30 PM | Tieflings fit the flavour well, but take a hit to Cha. Humans and Strongheart halflings get a bonus feat. Really it's all about what you like. A lot of people say humans are too plain and don't play them, but I like having the bonus skill points and feat. |
| twistdmage04-12-07, 03:36 PM | Thanks, I wasn't even thinking about halfling, but their ranged attack bonuses help with the eldritch blast and Blood Magus abilities. Thanks! |
| RobbyPants04-12-07, 03:56 PM | Thanks, I wasn't even thinking about halfling, but their ranged attack bonuses help with the eldritch blast and Blood Magus abilities. Thanks! Are you refering to the bonues given from Dex and small size, or from the halfling's throwing ability? The latter does not apply to eldritch blast (or any other rays for that matter). |
| WinterPsionic04-12-07, 05:54 PM | Drow/Lesser Drow FTW!!! |
| thepsionicbard04-16-07, 02:59 PM | what about a vampire :D |
| Armoracia Rusticana04-29-07, 05:00 PM | Where are lesser drows and planetouched from? |
| EpicEvokerElf04-29-07, 05:36 PM | Strongheart halfling. The feat is good, the dex is good, and the str is no biggie. |
| Rowan_Whispercloak05-01-07, 06:12 AM | Humans can have some very good flavor for the realms. You could also go star elf (from unappoachable east) they get +CHR for -CON, and some other traits as while. One question: What kind of origin for he/her powers are you thinking of as that can change what race fits. |
| d2447866705-01-07, 06:40 AM | Where are lesser drows and planetouched from? Races of Faerun. (Sp? Never played FR) |
| Maraxus05-01-07, 06:51 AM | Xeph. fast, darkvision, good Dex+Con+Cha |
| hobit_9005-01-07, 10:21 AM | What is Tiefling? |
| RobbyPants05-01-07, 11:25 AM | What is Tiefling? This (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/planetouched.htm#tiefling) is a teifling. Basically, they're supposed to be humans with a small amount of fiendish ansestory. They get a few minor powers in exchange for a level adjustment. Of course, I'd recommend against using it for a warlock due to the LA +1. |
