| AMGriffin04-11-07, 07:40 PM | Yes, obviously. Look at the PHB. Half-elves will almost always be inferior to humans or elves, and half-orcs can't really do anything but hit hard. There are balance issues, without a doubt. Hell, WoTC even stated they don't try and keep the races balanced. That doesn't mean you can't rebalance them of course. |
| lint trap04-11-07, 07:43 PM | Sure, especially if you consider Templated creatures as races. Feral, Half-Fey, and Shadow spring to mind. Compare any LA +0 race with one of these templates to a "standard" LA +2 race and you'll see the difference. |

Half-elf basically gets boned -- only build for half-elf either uses substitution levels or elf-only PrC's qualified for by means of what would get a real elf an xp penalty. Half-orc also gets boned -- you can hit hard and that's basically all, unless you use substitution levels and/or racial paragon levels, as the orc-only PrC's generally are not worth it. Rule of thumb in D&D is: a race that looks like a human is better than one that looks like a monster. The ones that look like monsters get either LA and/or HD making it not worth playing, or subpar stats... |
