Bloodlines and Templates? [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-10-07, 05:09 PM I was just wondering if I had an Elf Druid, with the Lycanthrope Bloodline (Unearthed Arcana, page 29), and if he was to be bitten by a Natural Lycanthrope would he lose his Lycanthrope bloodline traits, would he not be effected by the Curse of the Lycanthrope, or would he have both?

03-10-07, 06:20 PM Well as a read it (unless I missed something) you could even a natural lycanthrope and have that bloodline.

For the sake of Things Making Sense, I would have you lose the bloodline traits, and put the loss towards the ECL shift of the template.

So what you're saying is, if I have 2 Bloodline levels, I would lose the traits from them and just forget about the +2 LA from the template.

03-14-07, 12:36 AM Kind of. I'm a big supporter of template and racial progressions. They screw up game balance, lycanthropy being a case in point. In this example, the character would lose his bloodline and all associated traits, then count the two levels he replaced with bloodline levels towards the first two levels of the progression, or a level each in the template progression and animal progression.

03-14-07, 08:26 PM Tossing a fly in the ointment: I seem to remember that a dragon blooded or bloodline that becomes a Dragon, looses the former subtype. Not that it matters, as the dragon qualifies for all the goodies anyway. And: NO, I have no idea where I read it, too much cheese on my noodles of late.

That would be covered in Races of the Dragon and it's only for the dragonblood subtype. Bloodlines have almost no additional interaction rules since they are a rather unpopular variant.
I'd say the LA trade off would be the most reasonable.
