Alright, so I've been wanting to play a Dread Necromancer, and my co-DM has been wanting to play a bone creature from Book of Vile Darkness. Naturally, we (meaning I) thought to pair them together. The annoying thing is, bone creatures seem like an ideal choice for PC's, but the BoV doesn't list the LA, or even the CR adjustment. I've looked it over, but being the noobish player I am, I've been completely stumped. Help, please?

And yes, I've been dying to get my paws on Libris Mortis.

The BoVD FAQ states that the CR is increased by 1, so I would probably do the same for LA.

Technically, any race or template that doesn't list LA at all, or has a LA entry of "—", means that it wasn't originally intended to be usable by PC's at all.

Of course, as long as the DM and players are agreed that it won't upset the balance of the game, you're free to use the previously suggestions, and ad hoc a LA based on the CR or other variables.

I second Lotus Crane. Also, if you wan't to estimate the LA, it is roughly 2x CR. So for your bone creature it should be about +2 LA. With some consideration and acid testing, I think the LA should be somewhere between +1 LA and +4 LA

I don't have the book, but isn't BoVD a 3.0 book? If so, then it won't have an LA entry because LAs are apart of 3.5.

So coming up with an LA will require some testing.
