I hear this mentioned fairly often and am not sure what it means. Can one of you fine people please explain it to me?

Basicly, at certain levels, the player can spend an amount of experience to reduce his/her LA by 1.

LA Buyoff is found here (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/reducingLevelAdjustments.htm)

To expand on the reasoning there, most things that give LA grant static bonuses. But most class levels grant scaling bonuses; thus LA buyoff replaces a dynamic cost with a static cost to go with a static benefit.

It has its quirks, like the fact that high LA is harder to buyoff even though it grants even less of a benefit for all the classes you've given up. But it's a good idea, to say the least.
