| Einvaldurinn_mikli12-17-07, 05:21 PM | Drow Traits (Ex) These traits are in addition to the high elf traits, except where noted. * +2 Intelligence, +2 Charisma. * Darkvision out to 120 feet. This trait replaces the high elf’s low-light vision. * Spell resistance equal to 11 + class levels. * +2 racial bonus on Will saves against spells and spell-like abilities. * Spell-Like Abilities: Drow can use the following spell-like abilities once per day: dancing lights, darkness, faerie fire. Caster level equals the drow’s class levels. * Weapon Proficiency: A drow is automatically proficient with the hand crossbow, the rapier, and the short sword. This trait replaces the high elf’s weapon proficiency. * Automatic Languages: Common, Elven, Undercommon. Bonus Languages: Abyssal, Aquan, Draconic, Drow Sign Language, Gnome, Goblin. This trait replaces the high elf’s automatic and bonus languages. * Light Blindness: Abrupt exposure to bright light (such as sunlight or a daylight spell) blinds drow for 1 round. On subsequent rounds, they are dazzled as long as they remain in the affected area. * Favored Class: Wizard (male) or cleric (female). This trait replaces the high elf’s favored class. * Level adjustment +2. There you go. They are in the SRD. As an aside, posting something that's not in the SRD so that you can use it is against the CoC. I mean, would you want customers to avoid buying your books and just asking for their content on the internet? |
| HernetheHunter12-17-07, 05:24 PM | Sure! |
| Devigod12-17-07, 05:32 PM | So are you saying that you're too cheap to buy the Monster Manual? It's a freaking Core Book. What's that going to set you back, 30$? How can you call yourself a player or DM without even having the Monster Manual? |
| flaming-zetsu12-17-07, 08:04 PM | i never realy understood the level adjustment on some races, can someone tell me what it is/means? |
| Artifact12-17-07, 08:06 PM | So are you saying that you're too cheap to buy the Monster Manual? It's a freaking Core Book. What's that going to set you back, 30$? How can you call yourself a player or DM without even having the Monster Manual? Believe it or not, I DM'ed for about a year after 2nd edition came out without a Dungeon Master's Guide. I always made up my own magic items, and we never used the demi-human level limits anyways (they were listed there and only there). I was more stubborn and broke back in those days-- mostly stubborn ;). No internet in those by-gone days, but we've always had drow by god. Just wait . . . tieflings are next in line to take over the D&D world; the drow wont know what hit 'em :P. |
| flaming-zetsu12-17-07, 08:08 PM | can someone plz tell me? |
| HarlequinHelsing12-17-07, 08:16 PM | Calm down, bud, four minutes isn't nearly enough time to wait patiently for a response. IIRC that's in the SRD too, and if it isn't then I'm not at liberty to post it here. Seriously, take a couple deep breaths, calm the heck down, and become familiar with d20srd.org. Also, posting with capital letters and punctuation generally helps you get more helpful, polite responses, as does being patient and helpful as the OP. |
| ZiggZagg12-17-07, 08:18 PM | Level Adjustment is a system for determining how powerful a race is compared to a level 1 character. With the case of the drow, they have a LA of +2. This means that you have to add two levels to make a first lvl character. In other words, a 1st Level Drow Rogue is a 3rd level character, and earns xp, gp, and everything else level dependent as such |
| BugHunter12-17-07, 08:25 PM | i never realy understood the level adjustment on some races, can someone tell me what it is/means? The LA is used to balance a more powerful race compared to the standard races in the PHB. The formula is ECL= LA + class levels + RHD. To play a drow the average starting party level needs to be third. Your starting money would be based on your ECL, but feats and ability increases are based on hit dice. So a drow would not get their third level feat until their ECL is a 5 and ability increase at ECL of 6. If you have Races of Faerun on pages 5 and 6 has a good explanation of level adjustments. I hope this helps. |
| Muglock12-17-07, 09:29 PM | 1. Go to a book store/comic book shop. 2. Purchase Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 set of core rulebooks, these include: -Dungeon Masters Guide -Players Handbook -Monster Manual 3. Go home. 4. Read the Dungeon Masters Guide, Players Handbook, and peruse the Monster Manual at your own pace. 5. POST ON THE 3.5 FORUMS! 6. Profit. |
| flaming-zetsu12-17-07, 09:47 PM | sorry for being impatient. and i do have the 3.5 rulebooks,i just wanted to post it. plus,i dont think all of them are 3.5 because some dont seem to be as up-to-date as others iv seen. anyway,do you think a drow would be a good shadowcaster? |
| flaming-zetsu12-17-07, 09:52 PM | sorry for being impatient. and i do have the 3.5 rulebooks,i just wanted to post it. plus,i dont think all of them are 3.5 because some dont seem to be as up-to-date as others iv seen. anyway,do you think a drow would be a good shadowcaster? |
| Muglock12-17-07, 10:42 PM | Well, I know Drow make excellent spellcasters... As per just what in Heironious's name you mean by "Shadowcaster" I have no clue, but, I'm assuming thats a Wizard who has necromancy as his main magic circle, and in that case, yes, they make excellent wizards. |
| BugHunter12-17-07, 11:28 PM | The problem with using a race with a LA of +2 as a spellcaster is they will be a spell level behind and two caster levels behind a non-adjusted race. So you will need to weigh the pros and cons of using a drow in the long run. |
| key12-18-07, 12:31 AM | So you will need to weigh the pros and cons of using a drow in the long run. One pro is that they're cool. |
| zook1shoe66612-18-07, 12:59 PM | sorry for being impatient. and i do have the 3.5 rulebooks,i just wanted to post it. plus,i dont think all of them are 3.5 because some dont seem to be as up-to-date as others iv seen. anyway,do you think a drow would be a good shadowcaster? ehhh... i prefer things that do not have an LA as a "spellcaster". takes too much away from the power ;) |
| flaming-zetsu12-18-07, 03:57 PM | i suppose. and a shadowcaster is a class in tome of magic, along with the truenamer, and binder. the shadowcaster is probly the best, and probly the coolest out of them,so im gonna make one. |
| Einvaldurinn_mikli12-20-07, 05:17 PM | i suppose. and a shadowcaster is a class in tome of magic, along with the truenamer, and binder. the shadowcaster is probly the best, and probly the coolest out of them,so im gonna make one. It's actually horribly weak. Combine an already weak casting class with a LA +2 race and you have a recipe for suck. Edit: For the record, Binders are the best ToM class. |
| Maraxus12-20-07, 06:26 PM | So are you saying that you're too cheap to buy the Monster Manual? It's a freaking Core Book. What's that going to set you back, 30$? How can you call yourself a player or DM without even having the Monster Manual? Wow, how capitalistic, how lofty. You really make the company proud! There is definitly no need, that everybody in the group has to have each core book. One Monster Manual and a DMG is definitly enough, and one or two Player's Handbooks, depending on how good you know the rules and whether you use a PC with SRD during your game. |
| Devigod12-20-07, 08:56 PM | It's still lazy ass, if he was a DM or even a player couldn't he just check his book/call his DM and ask him himself? He doesn't really need to post something, with horrible grammer and spelling no less, to ask a simple question that he could answer himself. Also, your spelling and grammer could use a bit of work. And thank you, you're right, Wizards of the Coast pays me to advertise they're books. I am a soulless corporate slave who repeats all their catchphrases. I'm also colored purple and have a tattoo of a giant blue platypus across my back. If by this point you can't tell that this entire paragraph is sarcasm then you have no right to believe you are capable of intensive reading. If I'm capitalistic then what are you, a communist? Seriously, it's just a single book. It's even on CrystalKeep.com or Dsrd. And yes, I would expect anyone who styles himself a player to have a Monster Manual... Okay, I'm really sorry if I just sounded like a total *****hole. I have a serious tendency to go off like that. |
| JackSnape12-22-07, 08:54 PM | I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned the SRD 20 (http://www.d20srd.org/). The SRD 20 (http://www.d20srd.org/)contains most of the public domain material from D&D. I'd still buy the books; theSRD 20 (http://www.d20srd.org/) doesn't exactly replace your core books but you can use it if your books aren't with you. SRD 20 (http://www.d20srd.org/) surf it know it love it I'm also colored purple and have a tattoo of a giant blue platypus across my back. Nice! I like platypusses (or is that platypii). |
