| Aleolus10-15-07, 03:44 PM | OK, this challenge was put to me a while back, and I decided to try it. Here are your typical anime catgirls, the ones with just the ears and tail, and so forth. Using the Teifling as a model. Kittah +2 Dex, +2 Cha, -2 Int. Outsider (native) Medium 30 feet Darkvision 60 feet Low-Light Vision Skills: Racial +4 on listen, spot, and balance checks +1 racial dodge bonus to AC Special Qualities: Cute MOE. Automatic languages; Common. Bonus languages; any. Favored Class: Bard Level Adjustment: +1 OR +2 Dex, -2 Con, +2 Cha, -2 Int. Humanoid (catgirl) Medium 30 feet Darkvision 60 feet Low-Light Vision Skills: Racial +2 on listen, spot, and balance checks Special Qualities: Cute MOE. Automatic languages; Common. Bonus languages; any. Favored Class: Bard. LA: +0 Cute MOE: As a free action, a Kittah can activate this ability, forcing all creatures who can see the Kittah to make a Will save, DC 10, plus the Kittah's Charisma modifier, plus 1/2 their hit die. Any creature who fails their save is affected as though with a Bard's Fascinate. They may have this ability active for a number of rounds equal to their hit die, and any creature affected by it can do nothing but move towards the Kittah for as long as they remain affected by it, until they are in a square adjacent to it. Any creature who makes this save cannot be affected by the same Kittah's MOE ability for 24 hours, though a different Kittah may still attempt to affect them normally. In addition, for as long as a Kittah has their Cute Moe ability active, they gain a deflection modifier to their AC equal to their Charisma modifier. This bonus only applies against creatures that can see them, regardless of whether the creature in question made their save or not. |
| RobbyPants10-15-07, 04:14 PM | A few questions: Why do they have energy resistance? I know you modeled them on the Tiefling, but that holdover makes no sense to me. How many times can they use their "cuteness" ability per day? You list it as a free action and give a duration, but don't limit it per day. Also, aside from the cute ability, they're very weak for a LA +1. |
| Aleolus10-15-07, 04:31 PM | How about now? |
| gullas10-15-07, 05:43 PM | YAY catgirls .meeow;) |
| ToastedAmphibian10-15-07, 05:51 PM | You still dont say how OFTEN they can use the cutness ability, only how long it lasts for. If it is a free action at will, then ditch the duration and just make it a continuous effect that they can supress at will. Otherwise, say something about the frequency with which they can use it. |
| eternalGM10-15-07, 05:56 PM | Somebody Pleeeeease post a picture :P! |
| Aleolus10-15-07, 05:58 PM | It's like the Bardic Fascinate, where it's a certain number of rounds per day that they can split up as they want. One round per hit die. |
| ToastedAmphibian10-15-07, 06:23 PM | Then change the ability to read "They may have this ability active for a number of rounds per day equal to their hit die" |
| Thomasyo410-15-07, 07:00 PM | wouldn't charisma be more logical (lol, logic in D&D:D ) and make it more balanced. I don't know but isn't facinate the bard ability which you can't move towards them I would think it would be a penalty against their attack or they would be drawn to the Kittah |
| Watsyurname52910-15-07, 07:04 PM | Although, you could probably tack on a -2 Str penalty (as it seems to fit the catgirl) and probably make this a LA +0. Also, get rid of the +1 AC Dodge because the Dex bonus already gives that. And as for skills, tack on a +2 Spot 'cause cats have really good eyesight. Then it could be a LA +0. |
| Aleolus10-15-07, 07:05 PM | It is Charisma based, and I did change the way it read to match the Bardic Music. |
| 1 ton ghost10-16-07, 02:12 AM | you know there are Catfolk (Races of the Wild), right? i'd shoot from that as a variation IMO. that's all. |
| Aleolus10-16-07, 12:54 PM | Yeah, I know about the Catfolk, but the reason I picked Teifling is because Kittah (catgirls) are descended from Rakshasa. I figured using Teifling as a base made more sense then. |
| Finfreeze10-16-07, 01:15 PM | Oh, so they're descendants from Rakshasa? It looks...OK. Its MUE ability seems to be quite an intangible (although it looks faily powerful), though. You may want to add a clause that those who save against it once can't be targeted by it again for 24 hours...that or make it a swift action to prevent reusing the attack over and over again until they fail their save. Although it COULD use some additional stuff. I say give it a bonus to balance (from her tail) and spot. So basically... Kittah +2 Dex, +2 Cha, -2 Int. Outsider (native) Medium 30 feet Darkvision 60 feet Skills: Racial +4 on listen, spot, and balance checks +1 racial dodge bonus to AC Special Qualities: Cute MUE. Automatic languages; Common. Bonus languages; any. Favored Class: Any. Kittah (LA +0 variant) +2 Dex, -2 Con, +2 Cha, -2 Int. Humanoid (catgirl) Medium 30 feet Darkvision 60 feet Skills: Racial +2 on listen, spot, and balance checks Special Qualities: Cute MUE (1/day). Automatic languages; Common. Bonus languages; any. Favored Class: Any. |
| Aleolus10-17-07, 01:37 AM | How about now? Added the bonus to Balance checks, added the clause that no one who makes their save against their Cute MOE ability can be affected by the same one again for 24 hours, and added in Low-Light Vision as well (since cats can see well in any form of light). Dropped them starting with Infernal, as well. |
| Spikes01k10-17-07, 05:06 PM | Kittah (LA +0 variant) +2 Dex, -2 Con, +2 Cha, -2 Int. Humanoid (catgirl) Medium 30 feet Darkvision 60 feet Skills: Racial +2 on listen, spot, and balance checks Special Qualities: Cute MUE (1/day). Automatic languages; Common. Bonus languages; any. Favored Class: Any. Aleolus, I like this one better, LA +0. |
| Keenath10-17-07, 05:45 PM | I always thought shifters were catgirls. :D That picture of the shifter, next to their racial description in the ECS? *HORRIBLE* picture. The text calls them lithe and agile -- so what's the definitive racial picture? A beefy chick who's built like a fireplug! Of course! Why not a chunky elf and a tall halfling while we're at it? :pbbbtt: |
| Threefists10-17-07, 08:11 PM | (joke) You forgot a +2 racial bonus to Escape Artist checks....they're supposed to flexible and double jointed....:embarrass ....or so my research tells me.... (end joke) Seriously, you do know what MOE means? Finfreeze's LA+0 version works well. Nice single-use ability and the stats are balanced and workable. Would be hilarious to read a Ranger's character sheet and see he's got Humanoid (Catgirl) as his first favoured class, has maxed out his use rope skill and....no, on second thoughts I'm gonna stop there before the Wizo Hammer comes down on me. *flees* |
| Aleolus10-17-07, 10:01 PM | No, I do not know what MOE means. I'm wanting to keep it like the Bardic Music's Fascinate, where it's a max number of rounds per day, but other than that I can swap it for the two given by finfreeze. |
| Finfreeze10-17-07, 11:02 PM | Hm. I suppose these new versions of yours will work, and it's nice that some are happy with my LA +0 variant. The Cute Moe ability isn't a problem either way as long as you have some way to limit it from being repeatedly cast until it works, although I now that I look at it, that restriction is actually listed in the bard's version of fascinate (whoops). Still, it's good to keep little things like that out in front and visible so they don't get missed. As for moe, forgive me if I really botch this up, but... "Moe" is a really, really, really broad term refering to the sort of protective, caring, heartwarming, feeling you get when you see an innocent girl. But it's pretty broad, and pretty much anything can be considered moe. For instance, some people make like clumsy girls, others may like girls with glasses (meganekko), some find girls who act cold but are actually really soft attractive (tsundere), and others find maids (meido) and catgirls (nekomimi) moe. And it doesn't even have to be girls or youths. Bridget from Guilty Gear is pretty moe and he's a guy. It's kinda like cute. An innocent attraction, so they say. It's something you gotta feel with your gut—it's a bit hard to explain with words. If you want to know a couple of characters people consider "moe"... Nanoha Takamachi of the Magical Lyrical Girl Nanoha series (winner of Saimoe 2005) Suiseiseki from Rozen Maiden series (winner of Saimoe 2006), especially famous for her overuse of the term "desu". The four main girls of Lucky Star, most notably Konata Izumi and the twins Kagami and Tsukasa Hiiragi. Potemayo and Guchuko from Potemayo, literal moeblobs. The truckload of characters of the Touhou games are all very moe and have many fans on both sides of the Pacific. My use of MUE comes from an amusing pic of a certain miko chibified and with a zombie-like frown, with the words "RAYMOO IS MUE" written under them. Of particular note is Cirno, the ice fairy who has become a bit of a beloved joke character because she's not really smart. To be more to the point, she's a circle-9 or just plain 9. (there's a special circle-9 character that will pull up a lot of results for her on image search engines) On a side note, Saimoe is the Japanese poll/tournament held every year to determine which of this year's anime girls is the most moe. It's sometimes decried as a big popularity contest, with many of the more deserving girls (and boy) losing out to those with more exposure. Also the Japanese are kinda annoyed at the Americans voting and sometimes trying to shift the ballot. Seimoe is like Saimoe, but for English-speaking people and is between Touhou characters. I think both contests are being done as we speak. |
| Thomasyo410-21-07, 01:17 PM | i found a creature similar to this in a D20 book called monster. it was also decended from rakshasa (thats probably a spelling error) but the other half was nymph they were all also female. |
| Nadaka10-21-07, 01:28 PM | I prefer my cat girls to be Kilrathi priestesses of Sivar. I dare you to think of them as cute or cuddly. |
| Aleolus10-22-07, 12:45 AM | Oh, I'm sure they can be both cute and cuddly when they want to be. The issue is whether they want to or not. ;) **EDIT** Also, added in an extra feature of their Cute MOE ability, giving them a Deflection bonus to AC for as long as it's active. |
| Fly666monkey10-22-07, 02:58 PM | I suspect they'd tend toward Chaotic Neutral, and would favor being bards, considering they're such good dancers;) |
| Aleolus10-22-07, 03:27 PM | Sounds good. |
| MechaPilot11-13-07, 12:44 AM | The best way to create a catgirl race is probably to use the BESM D20 rules. Point-based race creation, with anime-type abilities in mind. Also allows easy determination of LA. Also, since all catgirls are girls, who do they breed true with? My vote is for humans. They breed with just about everything. |
| Aleolus11-13-07, 01:40 AM | I spotted BESM third ed for sale a while back, brand new book, but when I went back to buy it a few days later, it was gone! Do you know where I could pick it up, by any chance? |
| cat_god11-16-07, 08:04 PM | Is the Feline Races compedium still around? It had a lot of good fleine races (including mine!) and I think this would go very nice in there. |
| Aleolus11-17-07, 02:01 AM | I don't know, but I would be honored if you would be willing to add this humble achievement of mine to it. |
| Finfreeze11-17-07, 02:05 AM | BESM d20 I seem to remember hearing some really bad reviews about BESM d20 (or one of those made for the d20 system). I can't remember the specifics, but I do know that they released a revised version with additional content. Anyhow, I dug up that mue picture. http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q128/Finfreeze/raymooismue.png Kinda sad how she won Seimoe, when a lot of characters like Cirno and Alice are much more moe than her. Not to mention that a lot of the matches ended a little...oddly. For instance, Cirno had the most votes of any competitor for the first two rounds, but in her match vs Yuyuko, somehow Yuyuko suddenly came up with several hundred more than she usually makes and narrowly beat the ice fairy. Then Yuyuko barely pulls half that number in the next match and loses badly... Yeah. |
| cat_god11-21-07, 10:45 PM | I don't know, but I would be honored if you would be willing to add this humble achievement of mine to it. I can't add to it, I'm not the one who started it. It was really nice, though. If Sylvaroth is still around, he'd have probably noticed this by now, so I can only assume it's down right now. However, I favvied the Feline Races Compedium, so here's the link: http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=310016 (Feline Races Compedium) |
| ceiling9011-23-07, 03:15 AM | If you changed the Moe to useable to maybe 1 + Charisma mod... (I also don't really like the ability named moe... I'd like it better to be called something like Distract, or Charm even... but that's just me.) per day; I think even the +1 LA version warrants something like... +0. +2 dex is really good, but losing out on int is pretty harsh, I think it even makes up for the +2 cha... which is often rated a lower more useless stat. I don't particularly see catgirls being more fragile, at least to humans, in fact, they're probably more akin to being a lot of power races as it were in anime... so a -2 con I don't quite agree with. |
| Grizzled Gryphon11-23-07, 10:30 PM | Did someone ask for a pic of one of these creatures? http://images.minitokyo.net:8001/view/202737.jpg I wish I could have found one maybe in armor, or something more DnD-seque, but that was the best I could find. All the rest are in either school girl outfits, undies, or nothing at all. |
| Aleolus11-24-07, 02:17 AM | I can't add to it, I'm not the one who started it. It was really nice, though. If Sylvaroth is still around, he'd have probably noticed this by now, so I can only assume it's down right now. However, I favvied the Feline Races Compedium, so here's the link: http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=310016 (Feline Races Compedium) You flip-flopped the name and address of the page, so the address is shown as the name, and it tries to send you to Feline%Races%Compendium as the address. This does not work. |
| Sylvaroth11-25-07, 10:11 AM | ...If Sylvaroth is still around, he'd have probably noticed this by now, so I can only assume it's down right now. However, I favvied the Feline Races Compendium, so here's the link: Feline Races Compedium (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=310016) Corrected the link and added Aleolus' race :D -the just as annoying Sylvaroth |
| Aleolus11-25-07, 03:58 PM | *sigh* You both are doing it wrong. I guess I'll have to fix it. Feline Races Compendium (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=310016) |
| cat_god11-25-07, 08:42 PM | Wow. How did I manage to do that? Okay, well thanks to both of you for actually getting link-y stuff right. Oh, I have an image of a catgirl in armor, but I don't know how to post them, so if anyone can help, I can get it up. |
| Aleolus11-25-07, 08:58 PM | First load the pic onto a site like Photobucket or some such. Then go to the image online, from that site. Copy the address. Come here, post the address in a new message, using the <img></img> command, substituting []'s for the <>'s. |
| Miss_Kitty11-25-07, 10:55 PM | The only catgirl pictures you are likely to find that aren't of the ultra moe schoolgirl variety are Mithra. I made my own catgirl race for a campaign I am now in(so in a way I am play testing them). I even wrote up a full background for them. I just can't decide what favored class to give them. I wasn't using anything in the running for it.. so I didn't have to decide when the game started. Attributes: +2 DEX -2 CON Base Speed: 40 feet base speed Medium Size Vision: Advanced Lowlight Vision (x3 Dist.), Normal. Ageless Body Automatic Languages: Common Bonus Languages: Any Use dex modifier on strength based skill checks(such as climb) if dex modifier is higher. Yep.. +10 over normal movement speed. Ageless seemed a bit selfish.. but I came up with a story reason for it. Not like that sort of thing becomes an issue in any game I have ever heard of. Besides, have YOU ever seen an old catgirl? :P There were many ways I could have taken it and many ways to justify anything I wanted to put in, but I wanted no level adjustment. Hell, I could justify any stats and abilities I wanted(aside from -dex) based on any number of cat myths and stereotypes. There are many other things that would make sense(balance.. spot.. listen boosts..), but I didn't want to get to the point where I am just tacking on a huge list of things just because(and then figuring out ways to pay for it so it remains 0 LA). I figured this was a good core(+dex covers a lot of things anyway) for the basic feline thing. Agile and swift. They just look like humans with cat ears and tails.. just on the small side of the human average. Thus not super slender like the elves(taking after mithra in basic build.. if you've ever seen one). Their -con comes from the lighter and faster nature of their physiology. They get more speed.. but they pay for it by being more easily injured(this is the RP justification anyway.. under race rules -con comes with +dex). Usual alignment.. neutral good(following the laid back and relaxed house cat model). That is the basic rundown. I don't feel like sharing the full write up and having people laugh. (Yes.. I registered just to make this post..) |
