Is this so, or did I imagine it ?? Also, considering a Centaur is a single creature, rather than a rider and horse which are 2 creatures, a Centaur can only take a standard action when taking a move action per round, thus is Mounted Archery of any use to it as it can't fire a bow when taking 2 move actions ?? |
| snakeman83005-30-07, 03:46 PM | Centaurs have been a grey point when it comes to mounted deals (as are other taur-forms) for a long time. Personally, I don't see any reason to bother with the mounted feats when you play one (with the possible exception of Spirited Charge). I remember reading that too somewhere, but I can't remember where. Naturally, you want Shot-on-the-Run instead of Mounted Archery. Oh yeah, if you are playing a Centaur, please don't put ranks in ride... |

| Crimson_Concerto05-30-07, 08:43 PM | It's a very grey area. Some people believe they should be considered mounted, and some others don't. However, it is worth noting that in one of the Faerun books or something, the description of Centaurs does say they qualify for Spirited Charge as though they had the Mounted Combat feat. My personal opinion? I'm okay with Spirited Charge because there is a source that says its possible and it does kind of make sense conceptually, but it's really the only exception I can think of. If a centaur player of mine were to request a mounted feat other than that, I'd probably say no. |

| runestar05-30-07, 10:52 PM | The rule is in Races of Faerun. Specifically, they are allowed to take the spirited charge and trample feats without having to meet the prereqs and apply them to their melee attacks.:) |
| The_Shaman05-31-07, 05:18 AM | Hmm, what about the +1 elevation bonus to attack or the ability to make a full ranged-weapon attack when moving that mounted warriors get? It would be more than a bit strange if a mounted fighter gets +1 to attack (as mounted), and a centaur gets -1 (as large), I have to say. They're still a solid race, imo. |

No, there's not even any rules basis for that one. They qualify as having the Mounted Combat for purposes of qualifying from and benefiting from Spirited Charge and Trample, but they are not treated ad mounted for anything else. They don't get a +1 elevation bonus to attack, nor can they make a full attack with a ranged weapon while moving. |
