Cerebrums Cerebrums are intelligent creatures that hail from an isolated pocket of the material plane and have been forced to take up residence with other races that can protect them from a threat known only to them as The Shadow. Physical Characteristics Cerebrums look like a disembodied brain floating that has a small whip-like tendril that resembles a spine that ends with a small spike. Cerebrums range from a light pink to a sickly gray in color on the main part, or the brain if you would, with their “tails” usually being dull to bright red. They total about 3ft in length from the end of their spike to their top, and their brain is typically 1ft long and half as wide. They have no visible sensory organs and are completely hairless. Though they have no hands Cerebrums are able to use limited psionic powers that give them the ability to use standard human tools and weapons. A cerebrum communicates by sends out a small electric pulse that is picked up by any creature that possesses ears but it has a limited radius of anywhere within 40ft and it can’t travel through solid objects. Personality Anybody that talks to a cerebrum says that it is a memorable experience. Many Cerebrums are good humored but have a taste for more refined sense of humor that involves a combination of sarcasm, innuendos, and witty humor. Many common–born people find them snobbish while more intellectual people find them to be good company. Cerebrums have a general distain for lowbrow or vulgar humor that usually makes them seems snobbish as mentioned before. Many cerebrums enjoy the pleasures of the mind rather than the body since they barely have one so they enjoy riddles or learning new facts. Territory Cerebrum once hailed from a far off pocket of the material plane which is now destroyed and no scholar can identify what happened since they are incapable of understanding the language of the cerebrum and the only translation they will give is worded “The coming of the Shadow when all was lost.” Cerebrums usually float around (literally) human settlements since they are usually the only race open minded enough to accept them where they are the brains behind many operations within a settlement. Religion Cerebrums are seen to be a very religious race but their deity is so alien that nobody has figured out what it is yet and Cerebrums are unable to translate it properly. Alignment Cerebrums tend towards the lawful end of the spectrum as the pursuit of knowledge requires discipline. However they favor both good and evil in equal amounts but most end in the middle with neutral. Language (deserves its own area) Cerebrums have no written language and communicate among their own kind by touching their “tails” together and sharing thoughts. They communicate with other races through electric pulses as mentioned before but they must share a common language with the party they are trying to communicate with or the pulse is translated as static by their brain. This goes the same for animals but the pulses are translated as movements or sound common to the animal (for the purposes of a wild empathy check) rather than the cerebrum actually trying to imitate the animal. Stats • Type Abberation • +2 intelligence -4 strength. Cerebrums are bright individuals but not having a body doesn’t help their physique. • Speed 30ft: a cerebrum hovers off the ground about 3ft and thus have no contact with the ground • Size: small • Mental Muscle: as mentioned before a cerebrum does not have a physical body with arms and legs but its strength score is instead used in conjunction with their minds. A cerebrum can use weapons, rings, belts, amulets, but no boots. Their mind projects a small psionic energy field to manipulate items like lock-picks or weapons, but carrying capacity is still determined by strength(strength of the mind) • +2 on all knowledge rolls: cerebrums are natural masters of trivia and can use the knowledge skill untrained. • Natural weapon (Spine Whip): a cerebrum can lash its tail out to deal 1d3 of slashing damage. • Food for thought: A cerebrum does not need to eat, drink, or sleep in the way that most races do, they instead feed on knowledge. A cerebrum can read a book for four hours as an equivalent to eating and drinking. Also, they are considered to have rested for 8 hours. A cerebrum can also choose to use a magical scroll for this but does not receive the aforementioned benefits, instead the scroll is considered to be used and become useless but the cerebrum immediately gaind 1d6+the level of the highest level spell on the scroll in hitpoints. • +2 on grapple checks. A cerebrums tail does wonders for holding on to other people. • Favored class: Wizard A multi-classing cerebrum does not count his levels of wizards when multi-classing. Their natural thirst for knowledge drives many cerebrums to follow the path of the arcane. LA+0 Any input is valued as I really want to make this race work. |
