im thinking about playing a changling were-eagle monk. Im wondering if the lvl 4 adjustment is worth the single extra hitdice. Also wondering if the monks power work in animal form such as the flurry of blows and the extra unarmed damage seeing as how it is better than the attacks of the eagle, maybe im missing something but is a were creature even worth it with the 3+hd lvl advancement? If not eagle then what? This is a group starting at lvl 6 if that helps at all.
Thanks in advance for the advice

Lycanthropes tend to make very viable PCs, thanks to the damage reduction, skill and feat bonuses, and movement capabilities.

In this case, you won't get the advantage of your flight speed in hybrid form, but you will get a nice Dexterity and Constitution bonus. And the Wisdom bonus is very nice as a monk. You also get free Weapon Finesse. Overall, this looks like a very good high-AC monk build that works great playing a supporting role in a party (being both a meat shield and skilled character may be undervalued, but somebody has to do it).

You don't get to treat your natural attacks as monk weapons. In fact, I'd recommend not using your natural attacks at all, your unarmed strike is superior to anything the template grants, only use the natural attacks if you need to beat damage reduction.

Wereagle monk makes a very poor "bruiser" or "mage-killer" type of character, but it's very good for helping other party members keep from getting hurt.

Do I read it right that you will have 2HD in a level 6 party?
That is going to make things tricky for you.

As a Monk, your unarmed strike (adjusted for whatever size your current form is) will generally be better than your natural attacks. You can flurry your unarmed attacks as well.

Where is the were-eagle template? Don't think I've heard of it before.

Actually its 3 Hd, 1 for the eagle and 2 for monk.
The were-eagle template can be made out of the MM1 under all the other were-creatures, at the end of the entry it tells you how to apply this template to create other were-creature templates.
