| Lady_Sophia10-08-07, 05:02 PM | Was asked the other day to play in a high-level campaign and to create a character with a selection of templates to choose from. I thought, why not be a half-dragon / half-fiend Backstory to that is (mini version): Mum was a Dragon Dad was a Fiend Offspring = Half-Dragon / Half-Fiend (simple). Makes sense that, offspring would be Half-Dragon and Half-Fiend. Question is this - What would you do in this situation? 1) combine both templates together (with no base creature) and resolve the matter like that (Half-Dragon Template stats + Half-Fiend Template stats) 2) say the offspring is a Fiend (full Fiend) who is Half-Dragon 3) say the offspring is a Dragon (full Dragon) who is Half-Fiend I'm going to say the first suggestion; just combine the Half-Dragon and Half-Fiend Templates together, since that is what they are; Half-Dragon and Half-Fiend, but i wanted a second opinion. I won't be able to talk with my DM this week since i will be away, hence why i post it here. Is that a legal character setup. I'm not asking weather you'd allow it or weather it is too powerful etc, all i am asking is weather it is legal. To make a half-dragon half-fiend character, just be combining the templates together. The reason i ask, is because to my understanding, templates require a base-creature. Example, if i wanted a Elf/Half-Fiend, combine Elf Template with Half-Fiend Template. Base creature is Elf. What would be the base creature in a Half-Fiend/Half-Dragon, or would you just pick one to be the base creature, or would that be illegal rules wise? Any other comments on such a build, there more than welcome, but again, i am looking for the legal aspect of it rules wise, not the "it's overpowered" aspect of it. Thank you in advance, see you in a week. |

The offspring would be a Half-Dragon (Whatever Devil) or Half-Fiend Dragon; you pick which. Think of it as there is no exact splitting of DNA when born, either the Dragon or the Fiend DNA must be dominant, the other's template is added to the offspring. We're talking about mythical magical creatures here. |

My inclination would be to use the mother's type as the "base race" and then add the template from the father's type. It would be possible to stack both templates onto one creature but even then you'd need a base creature. |
| Garonak10-09-07, 01:10 AM | You can be second or third generation (even further out aswell I think) of both. So you could be the offspring of a half-dragon fiend and a human. Which would make you a Half-Fiend Half-Dragon Human. |
| Kesthol10-09-07, 01:34 AM | I agree; pick one and add the template of the other. I would suggest the Half-Fiend Dragon (as the Half-Fiend template does so much more than the Half-Dragon template. If you want to get really twisted, and have some time to monkey with it, you may enjoying creating a new creature that is (a little more powerful than) the average of the two creatures. |
