07-24-07, 04:06 AM Can you use the vampire racial Su "children of the night" when you are in a closed tower or room? Or do they need to come from a natural environment?

So ultimately, that's up to the DM to rule over it.
I would personally say that even if the creatures are coming from a natural area, you can still summon them from pretty much anywhere. But then it delays the time of their arrival. And maybe a check should be made if they are too far away, to hear the call (but i don't really under what skill).

You can see an example of this in the comics Batman Year One, when the Dark Knight is cornered in a building by cops and he calls the bats from the Batcave with a special whistle he invented. It takes time, but the swarm arrives and covers the escape of Batman. Great stuff :D

Inside a large building/city, I would say a swarm of rats would be what most likely answers your call.
As a DM, I might also allow Roach swarms.

If you are in a cottage next to the woods, the wolves/bats would come from the woods.

Sure, why not.
It's not specified in the rules, nor is it in any "classic" literature about vampires.
But, in my mind they fit the "night creature" theme.
It can offer a option when wolves and bats are unable to make it due to closed windows/doors/passageways.

I'm just saying what I would allow in my games, feel free not to use them in your games. :)
