| scrumpet36008-04-07, 09:56 PM | in our last campaign, me nor the rest of my party were human characters i was a dragon reborn (previously an elf) there was a half orc, and a cat folk My dm is starting a new campaign and he is not letting us be any race that is "out of the ordinary" what are some races other that the normal ones (human, elf, halfelf, gnome, dwarf) |
| zorgling2508-04-07, 10:00 PM | Aside from the fact that you left out halfling... |
| scrumpet36008-04-07, 10:00 PM | Aside from the fact that you left out halfling... yeah that too  |
| Niilo08-04-07, 10:02 PM | What about asking your DM which races are allowed? |
| scrumpet36008-04-07, 10:03 PM | i did that, he told me anything that i can find that doesn't disgust him |
| stargate52508-04-07, 10:05 PM | Lovely. I'd at least run Kobolds, Goblins, Hobgoblins, and the Planetouched by him. And what's wrong with a half-orc? |
| scrumpet36008-04-07, 10:07 PM | Lovely. I'd at least run Kobolds, Goblins, Hobgoblins, and the Planetouched by him. And what's wrong with a half-orc? i have no clue what is wrong with a half orc, he didn't like it much though |
| Niilo08-04-07, 10:09 PM | I hope you know what doesn't disgust him, then. Like stargate525 said; kobolds and goblinoids. Other than that; the elf/gnome/halfling subraces, aasimar, tiefling, changelings. Most 'Races of' books have nice stuff. |
| Salla08-04-07, 10:12 PM | i did that, he told me anything that i can find that doesn't disgust him ... disgust him? In a game with brain-eating tentacle monsters and flesh-dissolving oozes, something as innocuous as a half-dragon, half-orc or catfolk disgust him? http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa279/LolaBonne/WTF.jpg Play a Warforged, that way you don't even have naughty bits. |
| JarionSilverblades08-04-07, 10:14 PM | The problem with the half-orc is that their a really lousy race, second only to half-elves. And your DM telling you any race that doesn't disgust him is really vague, You should ask him to list a few examples for you. Also feel free to ask him about any of my home-brewed races. |
| HazardousMutant08-04-07, 11:05 PM | ok. listen up. i am the DM of this campaign you're all talking about. no, half-dragons, half-orcs, or catfolk "disgust" me. i was the creator of the half-orc in my game! he was actually my character which i let a player use. the problem with half-dragons and catfolk are that they are too hard to write into the story. the races aren't as dominant in the world. anything in the PHB or anything not TOO crazy are good by me. |
| stargate52508-04-07, 11:17 PM | the problem with half-dragons and catfolk are that they are too hard to write into the story. The catfolk I understand. But half-dragon? You do have dragons that kidnap maidens right? Well what happens when the heroes fail to rescue the maiden? ...And they've got such roleplaying and plot potential too... But define 'TOO crazy'. Humanoid without a level adjustment? |
| thenomadofkirintor08-05-07, 01:58 AM | http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=896050 Atra, fairly much a deus ex machina example of how to introduce a wierd race. |
| UnrelentingHoror08-05-07, 08:52 AM | I'd probably suggest something out of the PHB, or maybe one of the more common monster races out of the Monster manual. Like goblins, hobgoblins, gnolls, and what have you. Alot of them have ways into the campaign right there in the description. Others like the goblin, well they're not so hard. A hired scout or even a slave the party bought, I mean in the general time period associated with D&D slavery isn't that out there and I doubt too many people would be too opposed to it being thrust uppon whats seen as a monster. I'm also sure an aasimar or tiefling shouldn't be that hard. So I think your options are fairly open. |
