| ericSHINRA05-04-07, 01:35 AM | While I've had some success with homebrew races I've built in the past, I'm looking for some help in creating a suitable Medium-size Leopard-like race for a PC. I'd like to keep the race under a ECL of 3 and include natural weapons and attacks just like it's animal counterparts. If anyone can help me, I'd appreciate it. I'm thinking the creature type would have to be Magical Beast, no? |
| danielinthewolvesden05-04-07, 03:35 AM | Have you tried the Catfolk, a LA+1 race? Imagine it with spots? The problem with cat races- is that after we get done loading with all the really neat things we think cats should have, the LA is too high.:weep: |
| j3st3r05-04-07, 04:09 AM | Yeah, catfolk is what you're looking for. Some catfolks have the characteristic markings and appearance of leopards, tigers, or cheetahs, while the most common version reminds of lions. |
| Spikes01k05-04-07, 08:39 AM | Would you like a home brew solution? |
| ericSHINRA05-04-07, 10:25 AM | I should have been a bit clearer... I don't want an 'Anthro' race but rather an already Awakened race of leopard or lion like creatures. |
| Fireclave05-04-07, 11:02 AM | Then why not use Awakened leopards and lions? Just change the fluff a bit. |
| ericSHINRA05-04-07, 11:11 AM | Then why not use Awakened leopards and lions? Just change the fluff a bit. The ECL for such a creature would be greater then 5(my limit). |
| Fireclave05-04-07, 11:52 AM | An Awakened leopard would have an ECL of exactly 5. |
| RobbyPants05-04-07, 12:13 PM | The ECL for such a creature would be greater then 5(my limit). If it's too much, then strip out some of the racial hit dice, and reduce the stats (BAB, saves, skills, feats, etc...) accordingly. |
| jamesnero05-04-07, 04:13 PM | anthropomorphic template out of savage species???? LA is :( I cant find the book but check it out it might be less |
| The_Shaman05-05-07, 08:04 PM | Modified Cat Hengeyoukai (OA) perhaps? Like, no human form instead of LA? Aside from that, you can just twitch the awakened animal a little. I never understood the point of awakened animals getting 2 extra HDs, anyway. |
| Holy_Beholder05-05-07, 08:55 PM | Leopard Born The leopard born are a cat like race, with spots. They are lithe, but not weak, with paws as dexterous as any hands. They still sport small claws however. +4 dexterity, +2 strength, -2 int. Leopard Born are strong and swift, but they are not as smart as many of the civilized races Medium: As medium creatures they receive no special benefits or penalties because of their size. Leopard Born base speed is 40 feet. However, a first level feat they can take increases it to 50. +2 racial bonus of climb, jump, and move silently checks, -2 racial bonus on swim and hide. Leopard Born are athletic, but their fur weighs them down, and they are rather light. Claws: Unarmed strike does 1d6 lethal damage, however their claws give them no claw attacks. In addition, they count as if they are two weapon fighting, and take no penalty. Pounce: Like leopards, Leopard Born can make a full attack after a charge. Rake: If a Leopard Born hits when two weapon fighting with their claws, they can rake their opponents, dealing 1d6+str mod damage. Bonus Feat: Improved unarmed strike. Natural armor:+2 +4 to spot and listen. Leopard Born are perceptive, they needed it to be good predators in ages past. Sprint: A leopard born runs at five times normal speed, this can be increased to six with the run feat. Favored Class: Monk/Ranger. LA:+1 |
| Cariyaga05-05-07, 09:00 PM | Catfolk is much better than that for the level adjustment, IMO. And I love the +4 dex of 'em. |
| Holy_Beholder05-05-07, 09:01 PM | Okay, I will make them better. |
| ericSHINRA05-05-07, 10:27 PM | An Awakened leopard would have an ECL of exactly 5. They'd have a Level Adjustment too, I'm guessing. Their unbalanced(?) ability scores natural weapons and the like would need to be factored in I'm guessing. Leopard Born The leopard born are a cat like race, with spots. I'm actually looking for a Quadruped. |
| Holy_Beholder05-06-07, 01:04 AM | Those would be bipedal. For quadruped, make an awakened leopard, and get rid of most of the HD. |
