Did Cust Serv say that class levels count as racial hit die?!?!?! [Archive] - Wizards Community

In another thread someone just said that "For All purposes races with 1HD that would be replaced by their 1st level class level Hit die treat class levels as racial hit die"

This is normally not an issue, but when you add templates that scale with racial hit die (feral for instance), it gets out of hand quickly.

Has anyone else heard this?

I am loathe to email cust serv for clarification, since they have shown themselves to be completely off the chain with insanity and barely know anything about logic or rules. Additionally they rarely answer all of the questions you send them if you send more than 1 at a time, just picking 1 at random.

I don't know what cust serv said, but it clearly doesn't work that way. Here's some random rules quotes that all indicate the contrary:

Hit Dice
The creature’s Hit Dice equal the number of class levels it has plus its racial Hit Dice. Additional Hit Dice gained from taking levels in a character class never affect a creature’s size like additional racial Hit Dice do.

Other Statistics for Monsters
Creatures with Hit Dice of 1 or less have normal, class-based Hit Dice and features. They get skills and feats appropriate to a 1st-level character (even if they have a level adjustment).

Humanoids and Class Levels
Creatures with 1 or less HD replace their monster levels with their character levels. The monster loses the attack bonus, saving throw bonuses, skills, and feats granted by its 1 monster HD and gains the attack bonus, save bonuses, skills, feats, and other class abilities of a 1st-level character of the appropriate class.

Racial Hit Die
The Hit Dice a monster has by virtue of what type of creature it is. Hit Dice gained from taking class levels are not racial Hit Dice.

In regards your other point though, I've found cust service to be pretty consistent and satisfactory of late.
