| lameexcuses08-02-07, 03:21 PM | So, we PC's decided to play a non-core race campaign after a mush-potatoed core game. After a Tiefling wizard, a female drow clerdric following Shar, a bugbear rouge, a orc barbarian, and a Dopplelanger bard, the only spot left is --duh, a fighter(a.k.a. bunker). I never played non-core charaters before, so I want to ask the aformentioned question to whom have experence with it--do minotaurs worth all those LAs AND ECLs? And another question regarding stright-from-MM monsters, say, a minotaur, take its stats, minus all of'em 10 or 11, therefore there's their racial adjustment, do 28(32)-point buy system apply to these monster-turned PCs ? I mean, averge adventures are the elite members amongst their race, then why not monsters? |
| Onikani08-02-07, 03:29 PM | The Fant blesses this thread. This is really the best advice i can give, since i am not going to kill myself deciphering your post. +8 Strength, +4 Constitution, -4 Intelligence (minimum 3), -2 Charisma. Large size. -1 penalty to Armor Class, -1 penalty on attack rolls, -4 penalty on Hide checks, +4 bonus on grapple checks, lifting and carrying limits double those of Medium characters. Space/Reach: 10 feet/10 feet. A minotaur’s base land speed is 30 feet. Darkvision out to 60 feet. Racial Hit Dice: A minotaur begins with six levels of monstrous humanoid, which provide 6d8 Hit Dice, a base attack bonus of +6, and base saving throw bonuses of Fort +2, Ref +5, and Will +5. Racial Skills: A minotaur’s monstrous humanoid levels give it skill points equal to 9 × (2 + Int modifier, minimum 1). Its class skills are Intimidate, Jump, Listen, Search, and Spot. Minotaurs have a +4 racial bonus on Search, Spot, and Listen checks. Racial Feats: A minotaur’s monstrous humanoid levels give it three feats. Weapon Proficiency: A minotaur is proficient with the greataxe and all simple weapons. +5 natural armor bonus. Natural Weapons: Gore (1d8). Special Attacks (see above): Powerful charge. Special Qualities (see above): Natural cunning, scent. Automatic Languages: Common, Giant. Bonus Languages: Orc, Goblin, Terran. Favored Class: Barbarian. Level adjustment +2. Remember when making a minotaur that LA + racial HD = ECL. So a +2LA and 6 racial HD, means the minotaur is treated like a level 8 character before he takes a single class level. As for the rest of your post, spell check is your friend. :D |
| The_Shaman08-02-07, 06:07 PM | Yes, as a character, you can take any point-buy you normally get. By and large, you subtract - 10 (for even scores) or -11 (for odd scores) from the standard racial ability scores to get the racial modifier. As for whether minotaurs are worth it... Well, Onikani mentioned the main problem - you start as a lvl 8 character before even taking your first character level. If you can take that, great - I prefer centaurs, but minos can still kick some donkey. If that is too much, consider playing a half-giant, goliath or (if the DM allows it) the half-minotaur. |
